The Barrow County Mayors Association held its first annual dinner celebration Tuesday. Mayors from all Barrow County municipalities gathered to give thanks and recognition to some of the counties “pillars” — individuals who have done outstanding things for the community.
Linda Blechinger, the mayor of the city of Auburn, gave a welcoming speech to recognize the number of great individuals in the room and describe the “Pillar Awards.”
“We thought this would be a great time for us to choose people who really contribute to the cities,” said Blechinger. “We wanted to take time to honor these people,” she said.
Representatives from every Barrow County city greeted one another and were treated to a catered dinner provided by the Mayors Association.
Each mayor gave out their chosen “pillar award.”
Each recipient was granted a plaque and was given recognition by their mayor. From city clerks to administrators, mayors recognized individuals who have placed their communities first.
The association of Mayors included: City of Auburn mayor Linda Blechenger, Town of Bethlehem Mayor Sandy McNab, Town of Braselton Mayor Bill Orr, Town of Carl Mayor David Brock, City of Statham Mayor Robert Bridges and City of Winder Mayor Chip Thompson.
The evening concluded with a special presentation of classroom supplies donated by communities to help the school system of Barrow County.
Superintendent Wanda Creel, spoke for the school system to give thanks each community.
