Deputies help apprehend prospective criminal

Authorities pursued the fleeing suspects into the parking lot of the Southside Kangaroo and surrounded the vehicle.

The passenger was quickly taken into custody, but the driver, identified as Dwight Woodward, 28, refused to obey commands to exit the vehicle. Woodward was forcibly removed from the vehicle and placed on the ground.

During the ensuing struggle, Woodward attempted to grab a gun from one of the deputies. Woodward was eventually subdued and handcuffed.

When asked why he decided to flee authorities, Woodward replied that it “Wasn’t because we was gonna rob nobody.” Woodward later clarified his remarks explaining that he only came out to “do some fraud, not anything violent.”

According to the report, Woodward intended to pass some fraudulent checks before his plans were foiled by authorities.

Throughout the interview, Woodward became increasingly agitated and insisted that the arresting “Crackers” had no right to “mess with” him.

Woodward continued to tongue lash everyone at the scene, the deputy noted.
