The Barrow County Mobile Food Pantry, in partnership with The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, will be at Holly Hill Mall distributing food to those in need on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. until all food has been distributed. This community outreach is open to all residents of Barrow County.

I drove past this obama style give away several time over the last few years and I have yet to see anyone out there who looks like they are in need.I see a lot of fat cigerett smoking beer bellys standing inb line for free food, looks like the Hazzard County flea market.I say if "your in need"ut still find money for cigeretts and beer , and dont forget your meth, that your not really in need at all except in need of a bullet.

Who are you to judge who needs, and who does not need, the assistance of the food pantry? These folks aren't there because they want to, but because they have to.

Go stand in line, and tell me who doesn't need to be there. Seems to me you're too chicken to belittle yourself by being among the needy.

Have you ever seen someone who is starving ? or even near to subsistence living ? Lookk at some pictures from the depression era in the South, look at some pictures of staving kids in Africa today.Then go and look at these bozos standing in line for free food at Holly Hill. You aint never seen any up close beacuse there aint any in Barrow county.If you donate to this then fine , just know where your money is going, it aint going to the needy. If you want to help them there are ways to do it ,through a church is the best way. Around Christmas time the schools can identify needy families and you can help them all year long.You think Im too chicken to put myself among the needy ? I work for a living pal. Ive got two jobs and my wife works , we dont spend our money on cigarettes , beer or crak. Hell no ,you wont find me among the needy.Go stand in that line yourself, get your free hand out. And you people who runthe thing and make donations to it are just like the stupid wife that buys her alcoholic husband beer with the egg money. You are enabling thes creeps.
Dont take your fat , slovenly cigarette smeeling backside to holly hill for a free handout.

these food pantries are a croc. I wonder how many of these people had their WIC/EBT/Food stamp cards and are also getting free food. How many are illegal? Go to ingles and see the folks with eggs,milk,flour,juicy juice in one buggy and pay for their beer and cigs in the other.It takes 2,000 calories a day to live. A double cheese burger meal at mcdonalds is $2.99 and has 1400 calories. You can live for under $6.00 a day and people still are asking for handouts. THE WORST PART IS I HAD TO QUIT DIPPING BECAUSE MY INSURANCE WENT UP ON TOBACCO USERS BECAUSE OF THE OBAMA HEALTH CARE DEFORM CRAP. JAck Legg is right!!!!

my husband and I would not have eaten while we were in college. Young, married, with a child, both of us working part time jobs while attending college. Just so you know, that was 20 years ago. LONG before Obama.

I do agree with your statement about the beer and cigarettes. If people can afford those two items, then they should be able to afford food.

The problem ---- why should their children go hungry because their parent(s) placed their own bad habits ahead of their children?

First off who made the decision to be in that situation. Second the children don't go hungry. If you look into most situations the child is off being raised by a family member. Third as Jack Legg said, These people are going to the food pantry and they have Coach purse's and cell phones, and their nails done. My wife can only afford to use the nail clippers. There has never been a situation where someone could not afford to eat,they were not willing to do without or do what they had to do to eat. Someone can come across our border and stand outside of a Home Depot and work for a day and have a pocket full of money. Did you ever stand outside of a Home Depot and work or were you more willing to go to a food pantry. I have three jobs right now so my wife can stay at home with our children. I am willing to do that for my children and work three jobs so we don't ask for handouts. So if you want to say that a food pantry is for those not willing to do what it takes to get by, then I agree. Truly disabled people,elderly people get a pass they have it hard enough and god bless them. (actually the disabled people work harder than anyone else around them).

I agree...with Jack..They buy beer and cigs and then get free food...Is a shame .The real poor family is to busy working 2 jobs to even make the line for free food...

This has been going on for a while, long before the current sitting president was elected. As the old saying goes.."It will get worse before it will get better." So let's find a solution..what do you all think we need to do?

Now, for J_B_Moore..I think that YOUR own body will thank you for quitting dipping. I don't think that you would want cancer, now do you? Happy to read that it took something that got you too stop so that you can enjoy your family, your life, the simple things. I just think that it's silly to blame a health care program for making you do something that you should have already done.

Red ryder read post #5 sandy said all that needed to be said. I am to busy paying for their section 8 housing and all th other programs that they get. Do you not like working and want to stand in line? Show me someone that truly,truly needs this and I will eat my words. You may find at best 2% of these people who are in need. Most are not willing to sacrifice their vices or habits to buy the food when they can get it for free. One thing I love about this newspaper is they let people speak and let the citizens have a newspaper that speaks for the majority. And the majority is tired of giving and giving through govt. programs and then giving more to folks like you that can stand in line but not dig with a shovel. And yes my insurance had to change because it was going to be taxed as a cadillac plan by the socialist dictator's health care deform.

Some or many (I don't know which) may only be taking advantage of this program BUT there are people here who need assistance. So many of our elderly and children barely get by. OK, so maybe they didn't plan and save and maybe the kids parents should do a better job of taking care of them. I would prefer to help only the ones who truly needs the help but I can't weed them out, so I do what the bible instructs me to do. Charity itself is our Godly love to fellow man; it is the brotherly kindness and compassion we show to others. If you don't agree fine, don't help, don't donate. I hope you don't find yourself in need of help one day.

at it, let's get rid of Social Security retirement, SSI, Medicare, and Medicaid.

SS Retirement -(started by FDR 1935) to all the people who retired at 55, 58, 62 whatever and have long used up all the money they put in and are now taking my money - let's cut them off. They should have planned and saved more.

SSI disability - should have saved while you were able to work, and probably could get some form of work now. Cut them off, let them work or do without. If the person on SSI has been receiving it since they were very young - well, their (your) parents should have planned for your care.

Medicare and Medicaid - (started in 1965) can't afford health insurance get a job or rather get a better paying job. Can't work - well too bad, you lose!

I say let's cut out ALL the handouts starting with Social Security. This is just one giant ponzi scheme. The money won't be there when I retire.

I should be able to retire at 55 and be a millionaire from all the money I put into it, but no, I have to wait until I'm 67 and by the time I reach 67 the retirement age will probably be 80. Not only that, there will be no money.

Bottom line, I'm saving and planning for my retirement and at the same time, paying for all those people who are receiving social security retirement.

Socialism started in this country back in 1935. We've added one government handout after another.

People complain about Obama's health-care reform but all he's done is taken Medicare and Medicaid to a higher level.

People complain about the food banks but yet they can't wait to get SS retirement.

I think the Bible says that if a man wont work then he shouldnt eat!, if you are going to have a charity that helps people in "need" then dont you think you could doa little better job of identifying those in need?Very simply if someone comes through the line and they weigh 300 pounds then they are not going hungry.If they smeel like beer or cigaretts then they may be hungry and stupid. instead of giving them food ,point out to themhow they could better feed their family if they didnt waste their money.
Restore some credibility to your charity, make them prove that they are in need , dont mis apply Holy scripture to justufy a welfare state.

Well , he did feed 5000 on two different occasions, but they werent "needy" of physical food.He said that if one ate the bread he offered one would not be hungry again. He was speaking of spiritual bread, and spiritual neediness. If you dont have a job or much means to support yourself blessed lady then you dont have any business spending what money you do have on things like tobacco or alchohol or illegal drugs.If you are standing in line at a food bank and you weigh in at 300 pounds , smell like dirty underware and are burping up your last beer then you are stealing from the people that God might be trying to help.
Go to that food giveawy and look at these people. I dont doubt that they look dirty ,drunk and disheveled but that does not make them "needy".I come from people that was poor back in the depression but they didnt spend what they had on those items then go begging for the food that they should have been spending money on.If they ever did take any handouts they paid it back when they could.
People like you make me sick , people like you enable these slackers to sponge off of society, people like you are really doing the devils work. Wake up.

Ok I admit if they show up to Holly Hill Mall on a bike or walking, they may need it. If they are driving and can afford $2.75 a gallon gas to go and get the free food they don't And if they paid $2.65 saving $.10 a gallon because they used their ingles advantage card and had spent over $100.00 in groceries well then we know for sure they really don't need it.

As someone who works to help the needy in Barrow Co. i can tell you there are many people who need the help and some who just take advantage. Unforunately to help the needy, some others will take advantage. As far as having cars, alot get rides from neighbors or friends.
Be thankful you have the ability to work, because if you couldn't work tomorrow you would be shocked how little money disability pays and food stamps too

I am not sure why people have to condem those who they do not know the situation. It is not us who should judge if someone is in need or not. I imagine the ones doing the judging here are not giving a dime so what does it matter to you?
I have a child who is in need of this assistance. She is a mom who dosnt smoke or drink. She drives a decent car and pays her rent but dosnt make enough to supply enough for grocerys but makes to much for food stamps. I help her as much as possible but I can only help so much. She had a good job but when they had a layoff with not many jobs left she went to low wage which dosnt cover the cost of her mortgage. She is healthy but not overweight. She dresses in clothing that was purchased when she had a good paying job so she dosnt look needy. She does have self respect and trys to take care in how she looks with what she has. She continues to look for a job but as we all know the jobs are not there like they used to be. Daycare takes $110.00 per week and as you know that is most of a low wage check. People are quick to judge without knowing what is going on in someones life. It is a shame that people judge others without really knowing if they are in need or not by the way they look or because they drive.
You people would condem my daughter if you seen her in the line saying look at what she is wearing and not know that this was purchased when she had a good job. She does not need becuase look at her car this also purchased before the layoff. (I guess she should sale it instead of driving it to the min wage job or the food bank and get a bike or start walking)
When you are struggling and you have pride it is hard to go to a line like this but it is needed. Not everyone has is so lucky in life not to need help on occassion like those of you who find time to condem people without even knowing them and their vaules.
Thank you to those who give to people in need. May god bless us all for this cruel and judgemental world we now live in.

I understand what you are saying. At this time there are many people in the same situation as your daughter. For people who have had jobs and paid their own way, the reality of standing in line for hand-outs is very humbling and painful, indeed.
Granted, there are those who have lived, from one generation to the next, on Section 8, food stamps and welfare checks. Yes, I've seen them in the grocery store with food in their carts that, at times, I couldn't afford. I, too, have resented the fact that my taxes go to pay their way, while I'm out working long hours to support my family.
The reality is, there are those among us now who are in need because of circumstances beyond their control. Those are the ones who, once the opportunity arises, will be back in the workforce paying their own way. The others, who see no shame in living off government welfare programs, will always be standing there with their hands out.
I have to remind myself to not be so quick to judge others. We don't know everyone's circumstances. Some of those folks standing in line for food could be our relatives, neighbors or former co-workers. Don't be so quick to judge.
