An Auburn man was arrested for burglary just days after being released from jail on a drug charge.
Stephen Christopher Brooks, 23, of 64 Main Street in Auburn, was charged with burglary after several stolen items were found in his possession. A female acquaintance, Amber Shaleah Reynolds, 21, of 64 Main Street in Auburn, was also charged.
Police were called to a Main Street home after the resident returned home to find her Playstation, radio, nail polish and hair straightener missing.
The woman said she suspected Brooks and Reynolds were responsible because Reynold’s cat was inside her home when she returned.
While the victim was speaking with police, Reynolds called and asked if she could have some cigarettes. The victim explained that her cigarettes had been stolen when her home was burglarized. One of the officers asked Reynolds to come to the victim’s house and Reynolds complied.
When Reynolds arrived, an officer asked where Brooks was. Reynolds said Brooks was sleeping and had been with her the whole night. At that point, one of the officers noticed that Reynolds was trying to call or text someone and asked her to stop.
Officers went to the residence where Brooks was sleeping and obtained permission from the owner and from Brooks to search the premises. In the closet of the bedroom where Brooks had been sleeping, an officer found a duffel bag containing a Playstation, a radio, nail polish, CDs and a hair straightener.
After interviewing both suspects and obtaining witness statements, Brooks and Reynolds were charged with burglary.
