Man stabbed during brawl after assaulting child

Deputies were called to an Apalachee Ridge Road address after Laren Patrick Parker, 27, of 480 Apalachee Ridge Road in Auburn, allegedly assaulted a juvenile during a drunken rage.

The victim’s mother said her six-yearold son and Parker’s son were at the house at the time of the incident. Parker’s juvenile son reportedly became upset at the way his father was acting and walked outside. The victim’s mother said her son followed.

According to the victim’s mother, Parker walked outside and grabbed her son thinking the boy was his child. Parker allegedly used a choke hold to carry the child to the end of the drive.

The victim’s mother took both boys to a friend’s house to escape Parker and told several people what had transpired. When Parker showed up at the home a short while later, one of the men, Brandon Howard, 26, of 432 Appalachee Ridge Road in Auburn, punched him. Another man, Andrew Lamkin, 26, of 1603 River Glen Road in Auburn, said he had an issue with Parker as well and joined the fight. The victim’s mother said a third man, Cory Hamilton, 32, of 1602 River Glen Road in Auburn, was also involved in the brawl.

The victim’s mother said the four men were fighting when she heard someone scream and realized that Lamkin had been stabbed in the back and neck area.

When questioned by deputies, Parker said he feared the three other men intended to kill him. Parker said he was being beaten when he remembered he had a pocket knife and stabbed the man that was on top of him. Parker had visible injuries including a swollen and bloody face.

After determining that the stabbing was an act of self-defense, deputies arrested Hamilton and Howard for battery. Lamkin was also charged with battery, but was not arrested at the time of the incident due to the fact that he was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Parker was charged with first degree cruelty to children in connection with the assault on the six-year-old boy.
