Calling the results of Tuesday’s statewide election a victory for the Republican Party would be an understatement. Republicans won and they won big as they swept all the top state offices.

Republican Nathan Deal avoided a runoff despite concerns that former governor Roy Barnes and Libertarian candidate John Monds would secure enough of the vote to prevent Deal from winning outright.

Unofficial returns show Deal with 53 percent of the vote compared to Barnes’ 43 percent and Monds’ four percent.

Deal’s victory capped off a string of Republican victories statewide and put the GOP firmly in control of next year’s critical redistricting process.

Joining Deal at the capital next year will be incumbent Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. Cagle beat Democratic challenger Carol Porter and Libertarian Dan Barber with 55 percent of the total vote.

Other Republicans winning statewide offices include incumbent Secretary of State Brian Kemp, Attorney general-elect Sam Olens, State school superintendent-elect John Barge, insurance commissioner-elect Ralph Hudgens, agriculture commissioner-elect Gary Black, labor commissioner-elect Mark Butler and district two public service commissioner-elect Tim Echols.

JUDICIAL RACES
Two of the contested non-partisan judicial races are headed for a runoff. In the race for Supreme Court justice, incumbent David Nahmias won just 48 percent of the vote. Tammy Lynn Adkins finished second with 35 percent of the vote followed by Matt Wilson with 17 percent.

In the race for the vacant Court of Appeals seat, six candidates split the vote with the leading candidate, Toni Davis, garnering only 25 percent of the vote. Chris McFadden finished second with 23 percent. Other candidates included James Babalola, Stan Gunter, Adrienne Hunter-Strothers and David Schaeffer.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is no accident that the Republican Party made such huge gains during the 2010 mid-term elections.

Congratulations to Ken young and the entire Barrow County Republican Party for all of the hard work and grass roots campaigning that got the job done not only here in Barrow County, but also worked very hard with all Republicans to ensure success for the Republican candidates across the State of Georgia. There is NO substitute for hard work in a mid-term election, something that seems to be lost on Mr. Obama and his party. Well done Ken!

America has spoken. The question is; Will Obama actually listen to what the voters want?
Candidly folks...... I doubt it............Once a Socialist, always a Socialist. Can't wait for 2012...America's 2nd "Independence Day".

If I wasn't rasised half-right I would tell all the voters in Georgia what I really think but I will be restrained and say you are not welcome to kiss a certain part of my anatomy. I probably have voted for more Republicans but not the ines we have in Georgia. I must be reading slime ball Deal wrong. Srely all te accusations against him can't be true. Heavens we don't want anyone without a college degree to hold jobs except menial. Like Perdue Deal will enrich his bank account and feel very important while being congratulated om what good job e is doing why the hardworkers are paying gor his tax breaks and business losses. Talk about the sheep leading the lost. We thought corruption under the old Democratics was bad but I guess Republicans can really show us how it is done. All it takes is control of the purse strings and throw a few words out like immigration, Obama and Pelosi to get voters to stampede and vote for you while laughing while you are having meals and drinks ar rheir expense. I give up. I surrender. Thanks voters. You made my day. cheers.

Ardus, a look at both Roy Barnes and Deal's voting records in the Georgia General Assembly and, especially Deal's in the U.S. Congress would tell you that, not only does their handling of their personal finances show them to be equally corrupt, but; their support of thousands of unconstitutional laws that have lent themselves to the destruction of of our Republican form of a government of Freedom that is guaranteed to us in the Constitution. We had a golden opportunity to rid ourselves of both of these career politicians and the majority of the voters in the Republican primary blew it. But don't blame me, I voted for Ray McBerry for governor of Georgia in 2010.

As the democrats has always done for 100 years ... they always pull the race ticket, scare the elderly about losing their money and immigration. This is so predictable. It always happens. Watch next election cycle with two weeks to go to the election. They can not stand on their tax and spend tactics. They do not have a sound platform to stand on. They will never stand up and tell you what THEY WILL DO but they are surely quick to tell you what the Republican will not do. Voters you let them scare and intimidate you every cycle. How short our memories are. Roy had his shot and he failed horribly ... why did he ever think he deserved a second chance? Roy was the worst Gov since Jimmy Carter and Lester Maddox. If you are a democrat you need to tell your party to stand toe to toe with the republican and tell us what they are going to do for you and not what the republican will not do for you.

Typical democrat v. republican response Phil; if you don't vote for the democrat you'll get the republican. When will Americans ever learn that, candidates in both of these corrupt political parties are just two wings of the same old fascist bird, espousing the same Marxist social agenda, which amounts to Communism. And we call ourselves the "freest nation" on earth, while we are, in fact not! We are the greatest debtor nation on earth and; therefore, it is impossible for us to be a free country. We are nowhere above, maybe the 20th. But that is the way our public education school system has taught most of us what to believe so socio-Marxism is what we have, not the Republican form of a government of freedom that is guaranteed to us in the U.S. Constitution. As a former Chairman of 2 county Republican Parties, you of all people should know better than to throw stones and burn bridges after the fact. I take strong exception to your remarks.
Ken Young and the Barrow County Republican Party have both done an excellent job in getting out the vote in this last important midterm election.
I find your remarks offensive and nothing more than sour grapes. I am proud to be a small part of The Barrow County Republican Party. We stood behind our candidates 100%, and will do it again! Your geo-political analysis of the struggles between Democrats and Republicans will in no way diminish our efforts to help take this country back from an out of control
Socialist President who claims to be a Democrat. 2012 will be America's 2nd Independence Day celebration, when we vote Mr. Obama out of office! Stay tuned.........

What you touched is the nerve that you are in the party I belong too!!! Again thank GOD you are "Former Chairman" and I bet there are other Republicans in Barrow Co that think that too. You are playing off that you think you are intelligent ... I am willing to bet you are a "Former Chairman" for a reason ... that being stupidy and not smart. There is always a reason for being "FORMER". Now the ball is in your court mister smart guy. Come up with something original and don't copy it from some other news source that some other Republican has said.

Why do blacks vote democrat? i never understood that...dont they know that it was the democrats who opposed civil rights and school integrations?

democrats have done more to enslave black folks than anyone, and yet blacks are loyal democrat voters...it makes absolutely no sense.
