For the first nine months of 2010, Barrow County Animal Control has averaged 348 calls per month according to director Jimmy Terrell.
These calls have resulted in a monthly average of 64 warnings, 64 citations and the monthly impound of 121 dogs and 118 cats.
Recently, Terrell launched a “Friends of the Shelter” program to help deal with the large number of animals passing through the facility each month.
Shelter volunteers assist with adoptions, care for the animals, provide foster care and spread information about the shelter.
Though a significant number of dogs and cats are turned over to rescue agencies or reclaimed by their owners, dozens of animals are not so fortunate.
On average, 44 dogs and 86 cats are euthanized each month.
Terrell asks that anyone interested in volunteering contact Animal Control Supervisor Missy Burrell at 770-307-4969.
In addition to volunteering at the shelter, donations of supplies and money to properly care for the dozens of animals that enter the shelter weekly are always welcome. Donations of blankets and towels, kitty litter, animal treats and snacks, factory sealed packages of quality dry pet food and temporary outdoor wire pens are needed.
The Barrow County Animal Shelter has established a fund to provide needed items and equipment not included in the shelter’s operating budget. To contribute to this fund, make checks payable to the Barrow County Animal Shelter.
The Barrow County Animal Shelter is located at 610 Barrow Park Drive in Winder.
They need to hire some one who knows how to run a Animal Control and see how we can help there pets and the community .
And thank you Terrell for trying your best.
From now on whenever someone calls with an animal problem Im going to dispatch my henchman and he will shoot the animal in a controlled manner then bury it somewhere on the owners prooperty.
Just call me Mr. Chairman
hmmmmm.I believe the dog and cats are smarter trying to run away from Barrow _County.
