Parking lot accident sends one to hospital
A pregnant Winder woman was transported to Barrow Medical Center after she said she was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Quality Foods.
The woman said her mother and aunt were also struck. According to the mother, a man driving a silver Ford Focus quickly backed out of a parking space and struck her daughter. The woman said the vehicle then hit her shopping cart causing the cart to strike her leg and her sister’s leg. Both women said their legs were hurting and they intended to go to the hospital for treatment.
A witness to the incident said the pregnant woman was not struck by the Ford Focus and had been standing next to the car when the driver backed out of the parking space. The witness said the driver did back into the shopping cart.
The 66-year-old driver of the Ford Focus said he was attempting to back out of the parking space when the pregnant woman walked to the passenger side of his car and began yelling at him and asking him if he could not see her. The man said he once again tried to back out of the spot and hit a cart of groceries that was behind his car. The man said he did not strike the pregnant woman with his car and that she was not close to his car at the time he hit the shopping cart.
Another witness said the driver of the Ford Focus was attempting to back out of the parking space when the three women walked to a Ford Expedition parked in the adjacent spot. The witness said the pregnant woman was not struck by the Ford Focus.
When interviewed at the hospital, the pregnant woman maintained she had been struck by the vehicle and that the driver could have killed her, her aunt and mother and her unborn child.
No charges were filed due to the conflicting statements.
