A Lilburn woman was arrested Oct. 18 after her suspicious actions drew an officer’s attention.
While on patrol, an officer noticed a white Dodge pickup with an out of town tag on Wood Avenue.
A few minutes later, the truck caught the attention of another officer who then asked dispatch to run the tag.
Recognizing the tag number, the first officer joined the second officer in the area of North Broad Street and Jerome Street to monitor the pickup truck. The officers observed the truck pull into a driveway on Jerome Street where the vehicle was left running with the headlights on.
While conducting surveillance on the truck, one of the officers noticed a female, later identified as Suzette Faith Goans, 19, of 4257 Bending River Trail in Lilburn, walking down the street and talking on a cell phone.
According to the police report, Goans walked half way down the street before turning and walking back towards the truck. As Goans was walking back towards her vehicle, a Winder officer was dispatched to Hardigree Terrace in response to a call of shots fired.
The officer who was dispatched advised he was in the area of Hardigree Terrace running radar and had not heard any shots.
Within seconds, the two officers who had been conducting surveillance on Goans’ truck, saw Goans leave the Jerome Street residence.
One of the officers followed Goans and pulled her over on East New Street.
A check of Goans’ identification revealed a warrant for probation violation. While waiting for the warrant to be confirmed, the officer asked Goans if she had a cell phone. Goans said she did and gave the officer permission to look at the phone.
The officer checked the call history and saw that Goans had dialed *67911. The officer knew that *67 was used to block a caller’s identification, but knew that feature did not work when calling 911.
When the officer asked Goans why she had dialed 911, she denied doing so and said a friend placed the call. The officer explained that he had witnessed Goans using the cell phone and advised her not to lie about the matter. Goans maintained that she had not dialed 911.
The officer contacted dispatch and asked them to call the number from which the complaint of shots fired had originated. When dispatch placed the call, Goans cell phone began ringing.
Goans was placed under arrest for probation violation and was also charged with unlawful conduct during a 911 call. The officer also cited Goans for an equipment violation after noticing the treads on her rear tires were worn.
