An Auburn home was damaged after a discarded cigarette ignited a fire.
Firefighters were dispatched to 1421 Cronic Town Road just after 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 21.
Engines 4 and 5, Med 4 and Battalion 1 responded and found light smoke visible from the home.
“Firefighters found fire in the attic area over the garage that was starting to make access into the house,” said Barrow County Emergency Services public information officer Lt. Scott Dakin.
According to Dakin, the blaze was brought under control within minutes and was contained to the attic area above the garage.
Dakin said the fire started in a pail which was being used as an ashtray. When the contents of the pail ignited, flames spread to the home’s vinyl siding and extended upward into the attic.
No one was injured during the blaze.
