The Winder Police Department was recently recognized by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for their achievements in highway safety enforcement and education.
WPD’s H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) Ofc. Brent Davis was presented with the third place award on Oct. 1 at the 2010 Governor’s Challenge Award luncheon in Macon.
Competing agencies were judged on the approach and effectiveness of their traffic safety programs. Agencies were evaluated for enforcement initiatives, problem solving and public information activities. Departmental policies were also evaluated in terms of their support for traffic enforcement efforts.
Public information officer Detective Sergeant Rachel Love said this is the first year the department has competed for the award.
“The Winder community is fortunate to have Officer Davis, who shows he is dedicated to saving lives and reducing injuries when he encounters those that participate in high-risk behaviors behind the wheel,” Love said.
