Man killed in single vehicle accident

A Winder man is dead after a single car accident on Dee Kennedy Road.

The accident occurred just after 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18.

Thomas Ray Knight, 36, was traveling eastbound on Dee Kennedy near Fleeman Road when he lost control of his Pontiac Grand Prix, authorities said.

According to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright, Knight drove onto the shoulder and over-corrected. Knight’s vehicle crossed the roadway and went across a ditch before striking a tree.

Knight was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said speed appears to have been a factor in the fatal accident. Investigators are also attempting to determine if Knight was possibly racing another vehicle.

A witness who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident reported seeing a heavily damaged Ford Mustang in the area.

Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation.

Another accident occurred in the same spot on Wed. morning....I live off of this road and these people go much to fast down Dee Kennedy. Barrow County has been keeping officers posted on the road and hopefully this will stop the speeders in our area!

I agree... the entire length of Dee Kennedy is has some dangerous curves and there are alot of speeders testing their luck. Where this accident happened, it seems to be a prime spot for the faster drivers to pass the slower drivers as they don't want to get stuck behind them going up the hill towards Harmony Grove.
My prayers got out to this man's family for their loss of a brother, son or husband.

i use that road 3 and 4 times a week and i am one to run a bit fast but the night i came home and the road was closed slowed me down because everytime i drive by i stop and look and think to myself that could be me. but that family is in my prayers and hopefully that death wil slow the speeders down on that road.

This young man was my cousion and we have yet lost another family memeber to a horrfc car accident on the same side of the family in less that a year and a half. I beg of you that live on this road that if you see somone that driving 2 fast on this road to call 911 and hopefully this will stop another family from losing a loved one like we did.

That road does have some tricky areas.I should start taking that road slowly for my safety and others too,.I pray for the family of the man who passed away .And bless his soul.

I will start driving more careful and I hope every one else does too.
