The Town of Bethlehem will hold its annual Star Festival on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This festival, now in its sixth year, will feature a variety of vendors, activities and live entertainment.
Scheduled performers include Bethlehem’s own Tammy Brown. Brown is a Barrow County probate judge. Event organizers say Brown “can marry you and sing at your wedding.” Brown will perform from 9-9:30 a.m.
Other performers scheduled to appear include:
•Joyfull Spirits, 10-11 a.m.
The group Joyfull Spirits was started six years ago by Deena and Grail King of Winder. The traditional country gospel and bluegrass group began in the Love of God Mission church and has expanded from there. Deena King is the lead singer and plays acoustic guitar. Grail King plays bass and mandolin. Other band members include Kevin Rowe (keyboard and vocals) and Eli Rowe (drummer).
•Shelli Craig, 11-11:30
a.m. Craig, a Bethlehem native, is the daughter of Hazel Thompson of Bethlehem and the late Doug Thompson. She and husband Tommy Craig have two children, Seth and Kelsi. Craig began her singing career in the choir of Bethlehem First United Methodist.
•Riverstreet, noon-1 p.m.
and 3-4 p.m. Riverstreet is a cover band specializing in pop, rock, country and rhythm and blues. The band covers a wide spectrum of songs, from the oldies up to the contemporary Top 40.
•The Gilmer Sisters,
1-1:30 p.m. The Gilmer Sisters (Michelle Maxwell, Tanya Foster and Carrie Gilmer) grew up singing in their father’s church choirs and at revivals.
•Twin Tigers Karate, 2-2:30 p.m. Twin Tigers Karate Academy, led by instructors Nick and Matt Coffman, opened for business in May 1996 and now has a studio in Barrow County.
A number of food vendors will be on hand including Big Kev’s BBQ (BBQ pork, chicken, ribs, sausage, turkey legs, sides, potato chips and drinks), The Feathered Funnel (funnel cakes, lemonade, hot chocolate, water and soft drinks), Burgandy’s ice cream bus, Joel Lovingood’s P-nut man’s P-nut stand (peanuts, drinks and novelties for children), Free Spirit Baptist Church (chicken sandwiches, pork rinds, nachos, corndogs, fries and fried pies) and more. Additionally, more than 30 arts and crafts vendors are scheduled to attend selling a variety of products including jewelry, gift baskets, Christmas decorations, hand painted artwork, canned goods and other crafts. Activities include bungee jumping, a marshmallow shooting booth and a kidzone sponsored by Bethlehem First Baptist Church.
