As Barrow County begins its search for another fire chief, a former chief’s attempt to come back to the department as a basic firefighter has unleashed a political firestorm.
The controversy unfolding over the past week became so heated that it brought out of the shadows the former county chairman and two former commissioners.
Also swirling around are allegations of an altered document and other misinformation.
This week, the county government violated the Georgia Open Records Act by refusing the Barrow Journal access to the personnel file of the former chief and by failing to meet a three-day deadline for the production of documents.

Why would Barrow County even consider hiring an ex-Chief to be an entry level EMT-Firefighter? Especially one who can't make it through Gwinnett's rookie training? Oh, and the guy has a back and ankle injury, so may or may not be able to even do the work...Why is this even an issue? Send him a "Sorry!" letter and be done with it.

i agree. we dont need someone that cant pass the firefighter test and has a bogus emt certification working in our county. he already crooked the county once lets not let it happen again. but think about it they probably will hire him because they like to hire people we dont need. there is a few people that need to be consulted for not doing there job ex. the fire marshall is always following someone from buildings and grounds around like a lost puppy or just sitting at the annex building doing absolutly nothing. thats our tax dollars at work.
