Dozens of suspects were detained and multiple guns and drugs confiscated during a Sunday night raid in Statham.

Authorities processed 124 people at the scene and arrested ten people on charges ranging from obstruction to weapons possession.

Sgt. Ryan Sears of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said the raid was the result of a five month long investigation.

According to Sears, undercover investigators made several drug buys at the Statham residence. The home, located at 525 Thurmond Circle, housed both an illegal drug operation and bar.

The bar, which authorities believe may have been in operation for as long as 15 years, began as a family gathering place.

Authorities raided this Statham home after a five month long investigation revealed evidence of illegal drug and alcohol sales activity.

With the death of property owner Otis Jack Thurmond in June of this year, illegal activity and the number of visitors rapidly increased, said Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith.

“It got out of hand I think,” Smith said.

Far from being just a family gathering spot, the Thurmond Circle home known as “Jack’s” became a popular Sunday night hangout for hundreds of people from the Barrow, Walton and Jackson county area.

Since Smith took office, his deputies have been called to Jack’s on numerous occasions. Complaints have included noise disturbances, drunk drivers and shots fired.

“When you mix alcohol, guns, partying and cocaine, it’s a cocktail for disaster,” Smith said.

Over 200 arrested in Statham??? I hope somebody remembered to turn the lights off.... didn't know there were 200 people total in Statham.

Now then, can our county/city public safety officers now focus on our city for a change? I see drugs sold daily from my front porch right here in the city by two-school zones!!!

They by all means, be a good witness. How about some video you can give to the police, or tag numbers of buyers. Better yet, since this occurs in front of your house, tell the police who is doing it. Without a doubt, you know their names. If you don't want to get involved, then don't whine about whats going on in front of your house.

Victor - I have to agree with "7 yr Winder Resident". I have given everything from names, address, DOB, time of sales, who was involved, tag numbers, offered my residence for surveillance, everything they could need and still have not seen arrests be made in the City. I have talked personally to members of the drug task force, they say they appreciate teh information...sometimes even admit that the people are known seller/buyers and that they will call me back and I never hear from them. It is always me making contact with them. The County is doing a fantastic job of not allowing this activity to continue, but the City of Winder really needs to let the public know that this is a priority for them...because I know it is a priority for Winder residents!

Because I've given them information and they have acted on it. Of course I didn't give them as much as you claim to have given, but what I DID GIVE was valid, verifiable, solid evidence.

Yeah Buddy, really.. It seems you are defending these thugs with your comments of valid,verifiable,solid evidence cop-outs to not act on good law abiding citizens that help in notifying police but I am sure you have common sense regarding response times and actually having to be caught in the act to be arrested!? I'm sure you live in one of those nice prestige neighborhoods probably gaited where law enforcement comes running at every little request and everything goes your way..

F.Y.I, I've spoken with authorities on several occasions including notifying them of the actual criminal activity while in progress giving discriptions of vehicles/persons involved and of course by the time there's a response the dope deals over and no arrests are ever made. I do my job trying to keep my local community free from these low lifes but I am not the one with the badge an gun my friend nor is the responsibility of this all mine..

if you see drugs being sold take pitchers , date & time then turn it over to the police that way they can get the unwanteds out of the naborhood sometime the people in the town needs to help the police i did in my naborhood now the dealers are afraid to get out anymore they know we are watching.

Sounds like somebody was getting paid off the past 10-15yrs and know the owner of this illegal establishment is deceased, the hush money has stopped. Of course if somebody calls the police and complain of the goings on nothing is gonna get done. Now all of a sudden the police want to decide to break up things? Please!!!!!!!!!

no actually the residence was a home until the homeowner built another home, after that he began to construct family reunions every labor day..people could go there to shoot pool, play cards, and just hang out...even though alcohol did get sold which is illegal, the other nonsense did not begin until the owner's health declined..The place was a small place for family and close friends to hang out, but after the owner died, people took it into their own hands...it was not meant for that type of activity...not at all...

I just wonder how many citizens of Barrow County feel spending all that TAXPAYER MONEY (helicopters,dogs,190 officers from various counties) to take down a few people that wanted to have a few illegal drinks on Sunday,and from my understanding the little bit of drugs found were confiscated from a Patron not the Operators.It sounds like a whole lot of Trouble and Money for a few Misdermeanors.If it had been a large drug cartel with a few kingpins, and a few Mafia guys thrown in it might have been well worth it,but it was just a little country bootlegger for god's sake.

if our lame DA gives them nothing but 'probation' as usual then guess what?

we just wasted an ass load more money arresting and trying them and they will be right back at 'jacks' next weekend, raising hell.
