Firefighters with Barrow County Emergency Services responded to several fires in the past two weeks.
On Sept. 17, firefighters were dispatched to a Heatherwood Drive residence after receiving a report of a possible structure fire. Engines 4 and 5, Med 4 and Battalion 1 responded and found an electrical fire in the panel box of the home.
On Sept. 18, Engines 5 and 6, Med 6 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to a grass fire on Moon Bridge Road. Crews found approximately two acres burning. The fire was extinguished before it reached any nearby structures. Georgia Forestry also responded to the scene to help with containment.
Engine 1 and Med 1 were dispatched to a vehicle fire on Hwy. 82 on Sept. 20. By the time crews arrived, the vehicle was fully involved. The cause of the fire was determined to be a mechanical malfunction.
On Sept. 22, crews responded to a grass fire in the median on Hwy. 316. Engine 7 responded and extinguished the small fire.
From Sept. 17-23, communication officers with Barrow County Emergency Services received a total of 4,472 calls. Of those, 1,329 were 911 calls. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel handled 158 calls.
