Three arrested while trying to ‘rescue’ woman
Three people were arrested for burglary after attempting to break down the door of a woman they claimed they were trying to rescue.
A Barrow County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a Hwy. 124 residence after the homeowner called 911 and said someone was trying to get into her home. Two Braselton police officers also responded to the Hoschton address.
While the officers were enroute, the dispatcher advised that the suspects had entered the home through the basement and were trying to break through the kitchen door to reach the main part of the house. The dispatcher said he could hear the suspects banging on the door and demanding to be let into the room.
The Braselton officers arrived first and found two individuals, later identified as Brandy Sanchez, 19, of 331 Park Street in Pendergrass, and Bobby Michael Clay, 17, of 1858 Yarbrough Ridge Way in Maysville, sitting in a vehicle outside the residence.
A third suspect, Shannon Michael Carter, 17, of 657 Luke Roberts Road in Braselton, was located outside the residence.
When the Barrow County deputy arrived, he noticed broken glass from a shattered window and damage to the front door of the residence. The homeowner was unable to open the front door due to the damage.
According to the homeowner, she was lying in bed when she saw headlights from a vehicle. Since her home is well off the main road, the woman looked out the window to see who was coming down her driveway. The woman said she saw a large SUV with three people inside. When the vehicle stopped, two of the occupants exited the SUV and began beating on her front door.
When the suspects were unable to get through the front door, they went to a bedroom window demanding to be let inside the home. The woman said she heard one of the suspects say “Grab a rock Big Mike.” One of the suspects then broke the window and unsuccessfully tried to open the back door.
The woman said the suspects were quiet for a few moments before “bursting” through her basement door. The suspects climbed the stairs and attempted to enter the main part of the house, but the homeowner was able to secure the door with a chain lock before the suspects could make entry.
Before the suspects made any further attempts to gain access to the home, Braselton officers arrived.
When questioned by authorities, Carter said he was there because he received a text message from the homeowner saying she had been kidnapped. Carter was unable to show officers the text message because he said he had already deleted it.
Neither Clay nor Sanchez could provide any reason for being at the home.
All three suspects were arrested. Clay and Carter were charged with burglary and Sanchez was charged with criminal trespass.
