Most pit-bull owners I know say, “my dog is SO sweet, she would never hurt anyone.”
Even though your pit-bull is “as sweet as a baby kitten,” you never know what will set this dog off. Your “sweet as a marshmallow” dog could have an earache. A child plays with it the wrong way and the dog attacks. Or a child is playing with your lovable dog and the child starts crying, the dog could attack.
Keep in mind these dogs were bred to be aggressive. It is in their DNA. So when children come visit and you own one of these dogs please put it in it’s kennel or muzzle it. And, yes, I do understand that the owner is ultimately responsible, as much as a firearm owner is responsible for loaded weapons in the house.
The owners of these type dogs need to know that they have a “loaded gun” that has a mind of it’s own. When children are around put them away. Ponder this, in the past year how many Golden Retriever attacks were there? I am sure someone could find one, but it is virtually zero.
Sincerely,
Shawn Webster

Thanks to Maddox family
Dear Editor:
Barrow County Habitat for Humanity would like to publicly thank the Maddox family and The Peoples Bank.
Fifteen years ago, when Habitat was struggling to get started in Barrow County, the Maddox family stepped up and donated the land for the first house. That beautiful lot was used to build the Marc and Kathy Smith house, and all these years later, they are still in their home.
Thanks to that initial support of the Maddox family, we have since built 12 homes and are working on the 13th. The Peoples Bank and its employees have continued to support our efforts to help Barrow County families in need. The Maddox family is truly dedicated to Barrow County and their good works have grown exponentially. On behalf of the Smith family, and all the Habitat families in Barrow County, many thanks to the Maddox family and The Peoples Bank.
You certainly have made a difference in Barrow County.
Sincerely,
Paul and Sally Brown

Peoples Bank will be missed
Dear Editor:
I think I would be remiss if I did not write a letter about how much The Peoples Bank has meant to the Barrow County Schools while I was Superintendent from 1998-2010. The Maddox family and The Peoples Bank has supported Barrow County Schools for decades as they also supported the Barrow County community. They were indeed a “Community Bank.” From being prime sponsors of the Teacher of the Year to supporting each and every school in the system, I could always count on them to promote and assist our students and employees.
This type of support from the Maddox family set a tone with the family of employees of The Peoples Bank. During my tenure as Superintendent, Mr. Chris Maddox was always available to me for any situation – as were all of his employees. It would take only a phone call or a personal visit to any employee of The Peoples Bank to ask for support or assistance in any area of concern. I found them more than willing to go the extra mile to support and assist the Barrow County School system. Most principals could affirm that The Peoples Bank and its employees were always there when needed.
The Peoples Bank will be sorely missed by the entire Barrow County community, but it will be missed even more by the Barrow County School system. Thank you, Chris Maddox the Maddox family, and the The Peoples Bank employees for all of your unselfish contributions over the last eightyfour years.
Sincerely,
Ron Saunders
Retired Superintendent Barrow County Schools
Sadly though, the only dog attack I'm personally familiar with was by a golden retriever... nicest dog you could know.
The folks had a baby, who was sitting right next to the dog, with dad right there.
I think she reached for the dogs bone or toy, or maybe just made a sudden move, and he attacked. Bit her on the face, all the way through the cheek. Them he went and hid. he was ashamed, but had gone "dog" on them.
Just saying, you never know, but the breeds you mentioned are no doubt more likely to be vicious.
On the other hand, I had a sweet, sweet, collie mix. One day out of the blue she when after someone who came into my house. I grabbed her and she turned on me. My sweet, sweet baby girl was euthanize right after that.
While I loved her dearly, I wasn't going to risk her harming someone.
ANY breed can attack. As dog owners, you need to take responsibility.
