A Winder woman contacted authorities after learning her ex-boyfriend had attempted to take out a life insurance policy on her.
The woman said she was contacted by a representative with Exam Labs in Athens regarding setting up an appointment to have her blood drawn.
The woman thought the call was strange because she had recently had blood drawn for her life insurance policy. Upon further inquiry, the woman learned that her ex-boyfriend had requested the policy.
According to the victim, the ex-boyfriend is the father of her two children but has not had contact with her for the past eight years. The woman said her ex lives in South Carolina and rarely visits his children.
The woman further advised that her exboyfriend has a history of mental problems. The woman fears he may be trying to take out a policy on her so that he can have her killed for the insurance money. She added that her cousin had been killed a few months prior for insurance proceeds.
The policy application was canceled.
Stray dog leads to murder fears
A man became concerned after discovering a stray dog next to a sleeping mat and tent supplies.
The man said he feared someone had been killed and their body dumped into a nearby lake.
The man showed the deputy the dog and the camp site. According to the incident report, there were no signs of foul play but there was some trash scattered throughout a clearing between the lake and a dirt road.
The deputy advised the man of his findings and went back into service. The current whereabouts of the dog and the dog’s owner are unknown.
Dead horse found in woods
An Auburn man made an unpleasant discovery in the woods near his home.
After two weeks of smelling an odor he believed to be caused by a dead animal, the man found a dead and decomposing horse approximately 30 yards inside the woodline.
The man did not know how the horse came to be in the area, but wanted a deputy to check with a neighbor who owned several horses to see if they had put the dead horse in the woods.
The neighboring horse owner said none of his horses had died and that he did not know of anyone else in the area who owned horses.
Woman accuses husband of stealing
A Winder woman believes her husband is stealing from her and pawning the items.
The woman advised that she and her husband have been married for two years. During that time, her purse has been “misplaced” numerous times. As a result, the woman has been forced to replace her driver’s license twice and her debit card five times. The woman further advised that her handgun was missing for two months before suddenly reappearing on top of her jewelry box. The woman’s jewelry has also “disappeared” over the past two years.
The woman believes her daughter has also been burglarizing her home because she found a set of keys in her garage which she thinks belong to her son-in-law. The woman said she found the suspicious set of keys over a year ago and hid them in her closet.
According to the woman, she is afraid to go to sleep because her husband was a paratrooper in Vietnam and she fears what he might do to her. The woman said he has never been violent, but believes he is attempting to kill her with stress over the missing items.
The husband was not present at the time of the deputy’s visit. The woman said she had asked her husband to move out of the house that morning and he had gone to Tucker to pick up his suitcase from his father’s house.
The deputy advised the woman that she did not meet the criteria for a protective order since her husband had not displayed any violent behavior. The woman was not reassured, saying she was worried because her husband told her she was not in her right mind.
The woman admitted her doctor had recently prescribed anti-anxiety medication.
