The Barrow County Board of Education set its millage rate at 18.5 mills Tuesday night, the same it’s been since 2006.
The approval came at a called meeting the board held in order to allow the Board of Commissioners to approve the rate at its meeting later the same night.
Also at the meeting, the BOE voted to withdraw its application to the state for Qualified School Construction Bonds (QSCB).
The BOE had previously been positioned to qualify for QSCB, which was an allocation authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The allotment is not federal money or a grant, but locally borrowed funds that are set up so that those who bought the bonds may get federal tax credits.
