A drunk driver is also facing charges of drug possession after being stopped for speeding last week.
Alexis Castro-Hernandez, 21, of 2269 Jefferson Highway in Winder, was northbound on S. Broad Street when a Winder officer clocked him travelling at 56 mph.
After stopping the vehicle, the officer approached the driver’s side window and noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage. Castro-Hernandez was unable to produce a driver’s license and admitted he had only a Honduran identification card.
Castro-Hernandez admitted drinking beer at a friend’s house, but insisted he only had two.
Based on the results of the field sobriety tests, the officer determined Castro-Hernandez was intoxicated. The officer then asked Castro-Hernandez to take a preliminary breath test. According to the arrest report, Castro-Hernandez “attempted to make his face look like he was blowing in the tube.” The breath sample was insufficient to provide a reading.
Castro-Hernandez was placed under arrest and transported to the detention center. During the booking process, a detention officer located a bag containing a white powdery substance in Castro-Hernandez’s pants pocket. The substance field tested positive for cocaine.
Castro-Hernandez was subsequently charged with speeding, no driver’s license, DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
