Mother scammed out of bond payment for jailed son
A West Virginia woman is several hundred dollars poorer after attempting to send money to get her son out of jail.
The woman said she was contacted by a Bethlehem man who advised that her son was incarcerated. The man said he would bail her son out if she wired $655 to make the bond payment.
The woman wired the money to the Winder Walmart. The total cost of the transaction was $696.
The Bethlehem man later picked up the money, but failed to bond her son out of jail.
The woman said she wished to press charges and provided the deputy with the man’s name, address and phone number.
At the time of the report, the woman’s son remained incarcerated.
Other recent incidents investigated by Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies include:
•suspicious person on Dunahoo Road. A woman heard a noise in her carport and found a white male trying to climb over some boxes. The man said he was not stealing anything and mentioned the fact that police were nearby before fleeing. The woman believes the man was hiding from authorities.
•burglary on Carly Court. A woman believes her son is responsible for stealing $1,740 worth of items from her residence.
•theft by taking on Monroe Highway. Fifteen polo shirts were reported stolen out of a spare bedroom. the victim believes house guests were responsible for the theft.
•theft by taking on Mount Moriah Road. A man believes his friend stole a .44 caliber Colt rifle while at his home.
•burglary on Briscoe Mill Road. Jewelry valued at $2,500 was reported stolen.
•theft on Wall Road. A bronze lion valued at $5,500 was reported stolen. The lion was one of a pair at the entrance to a subdivision. The other lion had been reported stolen four days prior.
•burglary on Jefferson Highway. A 52” flat screen television valued at $1,000 was reported stolen.
•complaint on Atlanta Highway. Two neighbors complained about each other walking in front of their houses. Both parties were told to stop walking in front of each other’s houses and to stop talking to each other.
•theft by taking on Tanners Bridge Road. A garden hose and stand were reported stolen.
•damage to property on Finch Drive. A homeowner reported the front door to his home had been kicked open while he was away resulting in $50 worth of damage.
•suspicious incident on Kesler Road. A woman said she saw two suspicious people prowling behind a nearby gas station.
•verbal dispute on East Wright Street. A deputy was dispatched after a brother and sister argued over the use of the brother’s car.
•damage to property on Hwy. 124. A woman said she saw three black males in a gray passenger car on her property. When she opened the door to her home, the males fled in the vehicle. The woman subsequently noticed the rear window of her vehicle had been broken.
•damage to vehicle on Bankhead Highway. A man said his vehicle was damaged by a rock thrown from underneath a county mower.
•damage to property on Sandy Court. A woman discovered a shingle on her roof had been damaged by gunfire. Her neighbor’s roof was also damaged.
•theft by taking on Barrow Industrial Parkway. A bag containing a woman’s cell phone and key chain was stolen out of the Chico’s break room.
•recovered vehicle on Arch Tanner Road. A stolen motorcycle was found just inside the woodline covered with branches. The owner was notified.
•theft by taking on Wages Road. A trolling motor was reported stolen.
•trespassing on Laythan Court. A man complained that two of his neighbors were trespassing on his property. The neighbors said they did not realize they had crossed the man’s property line.
•suspicious incident on Eastmont Road. A woman called the Sheriff’s Office after she arrived home and discovered the door leading from her garage into her house was ajar. There was no sign of forced entry and no items were reported missing.
•theft by taking on Argonne Road. A 1988 Honda Accord was reported stolen after it had been left on the side of the road. There was no record of the vehicle being towed. The vehicle was valued at $500.
•suspicious person on Simeon Place. A man said a six foot tall woman with blond hair had been to his house trying to sell children’s books.
•burglary on Kirkland Avenue. A woman arrived home and discovered the back door to her home had been kicked open. No items were reported missing.
•dispute on Ravenwood Court. A man said he and two other males argued after one of the males called him gay. The other two males said the man was a thief and they were simply chasing him from their yard.
•criminal trespass on Boss Hardy Road. A man complained that an acquaintance of his frequently shows up drunk at his house. The man said he wanted the drunk to leave, but was afraid of the man. The deputy asked the drunk man to leave.
•complaint on Casey’s Court. A woman said her boyfriend recently moved out and left his two children. The woman returned the children to their grandmother, but said she was afraid the childrens’ mother would become upset when she found out.
•theft by taking on King Avenue. A black 1994 Suzuki Katana motorcycle valued at $1,000 was reported stolen.
•burglary on Hillside Court. Four men attempted to steal several items out of a foreclosed home. The men returned the items when they realized a neighbor had called 911.
•theft on Atlanta Highway. A woman lost her wallet while shopping at Walmart. She later discovered that a check in her wallet had been cashed using her drivers license as identification.
•damage to property on Highway 11. A woman was driving on Hwy. 11 near Hwy. 316 when she heard a loud bang. When she stopped to check her vehicle, she discovered it had been egged.
•burglary on Cypress Place. Weapons and electronics valued at over $2,500 were reported stolen.
•financial identity fraud on Palmer Court. A man learned that a Dish Network account had been opened in his name after he was contacted by a collections agency. The account had been opened three years earlier and the delinquent amount was in excess of $300.
•forgery on Enterprise Drive. An employee reported that three checks had been forged against the company’s bank account. The checks had been cashed in Atlanta and total almost $3,000.
•theft by taking on Mulberry Road. Several items were stolen out of a yard. One of the items, an aluminum hand truck, was recovered at a nearby salvage yard.
•simple assault on East Wright Street. A landlord said he was assaulted when he attempted to collect rent money from one of his tenants.
•suspicious telephone call on Natalie Drive. A man received an automated call warning him of recent burglaries in his area. When he tried to call the number which displayed on his caller ID, he was unable to reach anyone.
•domestic dispute on Smith Mill Road. A woman said her son and his ex-girlfriend engaged in a dispute after her son brought his “new woman” home.
•burglary on Legacy Court. Several outlet covers and light fixtures were reported stolen. The owner of the home said he gave a key to a crew that has been painting his home so they could come and go while he was not at home. The crew foreman said the residence was secure when his crew left the house the previous day.
•burglary on Smith Mill Road. A mobile home was burglarized while the tenant was in jail. Both back doors were kicked open resulting in $350 worth of damage.
•harassing phone calls on East Wright Street. A woman reported that she and her son had received harassing phone calls from her son’s ex-girlfriend and the ex-girlfriend’s father.
•gunfire on Jefferson Highway. Deputies were called to investigate a report of gunfire. The shooters were located on private property shooting at targets. One of the men was wanted out of New England, but the agency that issued the warrant declined to extradite so the man was released from custody.
•arson on Gray Stone Drive. A 1997 Chrysler Town and Country, which was later determined to be stolen, was set on fire and completely burned. A dark green sport utility vehicle was seen leaving the area just prior to the discovery of the burning vehicle.
•entering auto on Jefferson Road. The driver’s side window of a 1995 Mitsubishi Gallant was broken. The complainant was unable to advise if any items had been taken from inside the vehicle.
•harassing phone calls on East Wright Street. A man said he was being harassed by his nephew who is a member of the Latin Kings gang.
•complaint on Mulberry Road. A man with Alzheimers called authorities because he believed his home had been burglarized and his vehicle stolen. The vehicle had been left at a restaurant. The man’s family members were notified of the vehicle’s location.
•burglary on East Wright Street. A woman said she believes three of her acquaintances had been staying inside her home after she told them they were not allowed to do so. The woman also reported the theft of two cell phones.
•theft by taking on Hog Mountain Road. A 16’ double axle trailer and an industrial pressure washer were reported stolen.
•theft by taking on Hwy. 82. Two dirt bikes, a go-cart and various tools were reported stolen. The items had been stored in an unsecured garage and were valued at $6,800.
•suspicious male on Briscoe Mill Road. A man said a suspicious male came to his residence trying to sell jewelry. The suspicious male became nervous and left when asked for identification.
•harassing text messages on Windy Court. A man said he suspects his ex-girlfriend or some of her friends of sending him harassing text messages.
•harassing phone calls on Windy Court. A woman said she received so many calls from her sister that her phone locked up.
•theft by taking on Pickle Simon Road. An air conditioning unit valued at $800 was reported stolen. The unit serviced a vacant home.
•suspicious vehicle on Oak Hills Drive. A man said a silver Impala parked outside his residence left suddenly at a high rate of speed.
•burglary on Hwy. 211. A bucket truck, tools and building supplies valued at over $50,000 were reported stolen.

Gosh, it took forever to read all these. Another hilarious litany of ignorance and stupidity. I hope none of them breed or vote. We need productive, responsible grown-ups to keep the human race moving forward. Please, lift yourselves UP!
