A Winder man was arrested after changing his mind regarding reporting a theft.
A deputy was dispatched to 101 Midland Court to take a theft report. When the deputy arrived, the resident, Calvin O’Neal Martin Jr., 33, said he did not want to file a report.
The deputy advised the man he was there regarding a reported theft of money and Martin again said he did not wish to file a report. The deputy asked Martin several times if he needed to report a theft. According to the report, each time Martin responded by saying the incident had been “squashed.”
The deputy persisted and gathered Martin’s information for the report. When Martin walked inside the residence, Martin’s uncle informed the deputy that Martin was wanted out of Walton County. The deputy verified that Martin was wanted and requested backup. Before the other unit could arrive, Martin fled.
The deputy pursued Martin but lost sight of him. A short while later, Martin returned home and was arrested.
When asked why he ran, Martin admitted knowing about the warrant.
