Winder Barrow Middle School is one of 30 schools nationwide selected as Spirit Awards finalists in Windstream’s “Classroom Connections” program.
Only three other Georgia schools — Commerce Middle School in Commerce, White County Ninth Grade Academy in Cleveland and North Murray High School in Chatsworth — were selected as finalists.
Now in its second year, the “Classroom Connections” program provides financial awards for technology-related upgrades in public schools throughout the company’s service area. This year, Windstream will award a total of $150,000.
Public and public charter schools in 15 states submitted applications online. Each of the 120 schools who participated was required to submit a video presentation along with their application.
Four schools, selected by a panel of Windstream executives and outside leaders in the technology and education industries, received a $25,000 donation.
The 30 finalists, including WBMS, are eligible for a $5,000 spirit award that schools can use to fund anything from computers and text books to band uniforms to athletic equipment.
Selections will be based on public online voting.
The deadline for voting is Sept.7. Visit www.lifetimetour.com/topvideos.php to view each school’s video entry and vote. Each visitor may vote once per day.
Beginning Aug. 30, vote tallies will be visible on the school’s video entry page to allow supporters to track the school’s vote totals.
