Almost three weeks and a GBI investigation later, a post on a local blog is still generating controversy.
Just days after the GBI announced it would not pursue criminal charges against the author who posted a comment which Barrow County commission chairman Danny Yearwood perceived as threatening, Yearwood asked that the investigation be re-opened.
The comment, posted August 6 on the Barrow County Citizen’s Watch “Watcher’s Blog,” was in response to a rumor that Yearwood had proposed closing one of Barrow County’s six fire stations and slashing the Sheriff’s Office budget as cost cutting measures.
The message read: “I hope and pray that your home catches on fire or you have a heart attack or even better someone breaks into your home and holds your family at gun point. Then and only then will you ever value public safety.”
The listed email address of the anonymous blogger was upyours@yahoo.com.
The GBI declined to pursue criminal charges against the anonymous blogger saying the comment fell within First Amendment protections.
Yearwood was notified of the GBI’s decision last week. Christopher Bish, assistant special agent in charge of the Athens GBI office, said Yearwood disagreed with the decision, but gave no indication he intended to pursue the matter further.
Bish said Yearwood cited a federal investigation from 2009 which he felt was similar.
That case, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) investigation of 78-year-old Beth Whitehead, originated when Whitehead called the Federal Communications Commission to complain about her television reception.

Thank you for not letting me speak at the last BOC meeting; it just goes to show that you are not interested in what registered voters have to say.
The reason I did not accept your invitation to speak with you privately is because I want everybody to know what I have to say, not just you.
You have done no good since becoming Chairman and consider yourself losing that seat in the next election.
Stop wasting the County's money trying to get something investigated that is not a threat.
I can guarantee you that was not a County employee that posted that blog, so stop wasting money trying to get someone fired.

You have already embarrassed us enough. Barrow County is the "laughing stock" of the state.
I've read the blog & no where in it does it threaten him. It only states that the writer wishes something would happen. My grandfather told me one time, "you can wish in one hand & poop in the other, and see which one will fill up faster". This is just his way of trying to get more attention. He is almost as bad as Charles Bannister in Gwinnett County if not even worse.
