Car accidents were among the numerous incidents which kept personnel from Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services busy during the past week.
In total, the department responded to 183 calls for service including several requests for assistance from other agencies. Calls handled by Barrow County Emergency Services personnel included the following:
•motor vehicle accident on Hwy. 211 at Barrow Park Drive. Engine 5, Med 5, Battalion 1 and deputy chief Bryan Bullock responded to the August 6 accident involving a tractor trailer and a passenger car driven by a Barrow County employee. Winder Rescue 1 also responded to assist.
•motor vehicle accident on Hwy. 124 near Hog Mountain Road on August 7. Engines 5 and 4, Med 5, Battalion 1 and a medical helicopter responded to the scene. West Jackson Fire Department also assisted. Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle had left the roadway and was lodged in a tree. The driver of the vehicle was ejected and located down an 18-foot embankment. The patient was flown to an Atlanta hospital.
•motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East Midland Ave and Huckleberry Lane. Engine 6, Med 6 and Battalion 1 responded to the August 7 accident. There were no injuries reported.
•motor vehicle accident on Loganville Highway. Ladder 7, Med 3 and Battalion 1 responded to a two-vehicle collision on August 9. Two patients were transported to an area hospital.
•motor vehicle accident on Matthew School Road. On August 9, Ladder 7, Med 4 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to a residence after a pickup truck crashed into the corner of the home. Crews shut off the utilities at the home due to structural damage. No injuries were reported.
•motor vehicle accident on Hwy. 316 at the Gwinnett County line. Ladder 7, Med 7 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to an August 9 accident involving an overturned vehicle in eastbound lanes. There were no injuries.
•motor vehicle accident on Victron Drive. On August 9, Engine 5, Med 5 and Battalion 1 responded to a vehicle rollover which resulted in a fire in the engine compartment. Crews extinguished the fire. No one was injured in the accident.
•motor vehicle accident on Mount Moriah Road. Engine 4, Med 4 and 7 and Battalion 1 responded to a two-vehicle collision on August 10. Three patients were transported to local hospitals.
•motor vehicle accident on Pearl Pentecost Road near Carl Cedar Hill. A motorcyclist crashed on August 11. Ladder 7, Med 7 and Battalion 1 responded. No injuries were reported.
•fire in the area of Cedar Creek Road and Piney Hill. On August 11, Engine 5 and Med 7 were dispatched to a grass fire under the power lines. Crews extinguished the fire and contacted Georgia Forestry units to cut a firebreak.
•motor vehicle accident on Hwy. 316 at Patrick Mill Road. Ladder 7, Med 7 and Battalion 1 responded to a two-vehicle collision on August 12. Firefighters found one vehicle with multiple dogs inside that would not allow access to the patient inside the vehicle. A neighbor of the driver removed the dogs in order that crews could treat the patient. The patient was transported to an area hospital.
