Bethlehem signs contract for intersection

Town of Bethlehem officials dotted all the I’s and crossed all the T’s during a called meeting last Thursday concerning intersection improvement work at Hwy. 11/Star Street.

The council signed a contract with McFarland-Dyer and Associates to make intersection improvements by surveying and additional use of civil engineering and signal design.

The council voted unanimously to proceed using MDA for the design improvement work in hopes of having a red light installed by the state Department of Transportation.

There was also discussion concerning right-of-way room although MDA officials said they are close to having the necessary amount.

Mark my word, there will be more accident now that a Bethlehem is getting a red light at this intersection. And I am going to keep up with the data. Maybe useful to a lawyer someday. Remember Bethlehem ask for it.

You are obviously not a Bethlehem resident. Speaking as one, I and my fellow neighbors can't wait for this to happen. We as residents have been asking for this light for several years and can't wait to see it go up. I have seen more accidents @ that intersection in the last 5 years that I care to count. We are just glad that no one was seriously hurt. Traffic coming from Winder toward Monroe on Highway 11 is WAY TOO FAST to be going through a small town. This will also allow traffic to move easier in a very conjested intersection.

Why don't you pack you stuff and go move it with Mr. Yearwood from the BCBOC because you both come across as idiots.

As a person who has survived a car accident at the Hwy11 and Star street intersection. I cannot tell you how happy I am to hear that they are moving towards putting in a light. We have needed one there for the longest of times. I am guessing Mark my Words that you are not keeping data on some of the other major intersection changes that have happened that are saving lives. Example the Hwy 81 and Carl-Bethlehem intersection. This light will save lives because too many people go 55mph down Hwy 11 and the speed limit is 40 mph.
