Just one week after county engineering department manager Darrell Greeson presented plans for a new left turn lane from Hwy. 211 onto Barrow Park Drive, another person has been injured in an accident at the intersection.

The accident, which occurred at approximately 2:40 this afternoon, resulted in only minor injuries.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith said the driver of a silver Chevrolet HHR was stopped in traffic on Hwy. 211 waiting to turn left onto Barrow Park Drive when her vehicle was rear-ended by a minivan also traveling westbound.

The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the hospital with minor complaints, Smith said.

The driver of the minivan did not require transport, but advised she intended to seek medical attention for herself and her two children.

A three-way stop sign would be a good start, then move the speed limit sign that is just up the hill to an area beyond the intersection.

Mark my words. Someone has to die! someone has to lose their life before any concrete action is taken on this God forsaken turn. Citizens should be outraged and refuse to do business at the courthouse until a turn is put in place. Who is to say that if YOU show up there TODAY to make that turn, IT might be YOU that will DIE today? Sad but true...

I think that is an execcelent idea about refusing to do business there. I for one will not go there until that intersection is rendered safe.You know the only reason they are even talking about repairing it is because people have called and wrote on here to complain.They didnt really care enough to make it right in the beginning.What would they do if during the next court weeek, no prospective jurors showed up because of this? They cant lock up 300 people at one time.Barrow citizens we need to stick together and as a protest not go to the new court house for ANY reason until they actually do the work that they have ignored for so long.

Yes, by all means invoke eminent domain, steal some land, spend hundreds of thousands of dollars -- all to fix a little problem because a few people are too stupid to drive.

Well, I think this is a stupid comment you make. My sister happened to be the one that hit this lady yesterday. She's learned the hard way to pay attention while driving, our Mom was killed 4 yrs ago this week by someone who ran a stop sign. She isn't too stupid to drive, the lady was stopped in the middle of the road WITHOUT a turn signal on and NO traffic. She tried missing the lady but ended up hitting the guard rail and being slung into the lady any way. Accidents happen, be grateful no one was hurt, she had her children with her. And, by the way...our Mom was the 15th person to be killed at the intersection where her life was taken. nothing was done until 15 people passed away...now there is a 4 way stop at the intersection. Her death was because of a stupid driver not stopping at a light, my sister was paying attention while driving.

My condolences go out to your family Natalie, however reading your comment, twice you contradicted yourself..first you said your sister learned the hard way to pay attention while driving then at the end of the comment you said your sister was paying attention. If she was paying attention, the accident would not have occurred. Then you said your mom was killed by someone who ran a stop sign and you blamed a stupid driver for going through a light. The question I wonder is was your sister on the phone at the time of the accident? I personally saw the damage at the scene, that was somebody definitely not paying attention to the road until it was too late, whatever she was doing inside the van. I see more and more people being distracted by phone calls and hope one day everyone will be forced to wear an earpiece, the way I do..so I never have to take my eyes off the road. I am also glad that your sister and her children were not injured. It devastates me every time I see a child get killed.

In California it is against the law to talk and drive. You can use a hands free device but no holding the phone. The number of accidents related to talking and driving haven't gone down.

It doesn't matter if you are using a hands free device or holding the phone when you are SO engrossed in the conversation you become distracted.

Wonder if commuter dude will come to Barrow?

No one was on the phone while driving, she wasn't texting and driving and she wasn't talking while driving.
I was stating that she learned to not be careless while driving from losing our Mom b/c someone else was being careless while driving. She learned from someone elses mistake 4 yrs ago.

I think its a little extreme to say putting in a four way or even a light at this busy intersection would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Furthermore putting a price on life isn't something our society does. Up with the traffic light!

Well they could park right in the curve and slow drivers down but wait there is no shoulder, no turn lane, no place for them to park and a total waist on money and resources. People just need to pay attention. The same problem would be here if this was an entrance to a neighborhood and you people would not be complaining at all about that.

I'm going to assume that you meant it would be a "WASTE OF money and resources" to fix this problem. You also stated that we wouldn't be complaining if the issue were at the front of a neighborhood. I disagree. In fact I dare you to say that to the mother who fought for the "children at play" signs that are placed at many neighborhood entrances. I assume you think that those are a "waste of money and resources" as well. Like Natalie said above, accidents happen, we should all be grateful that no one was seriously hurt. I pray, that you sir, are always well aware of your surroundings and never get into an accident yourself.
