Drug task force arrests numerous suspects

Law enforcement officers from the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Winder Police Department, Statham Police Department, Auburn Police Department, and the Department of Pardons and Parole participated in the August 8 sweep.

“The intent of the task force is to fight the drug trade which leads to other violent crimes, in Barrow County, and all of our local municipalities,” said Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith. The task force began operation in February 2010, and includes the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, Winder Police Department and Statham Police Department.

Smith, Winder Police Chief Stanley Rodgers and Statham Police Chief Steve Martin said the task force has improved drug enforcement ability for their respective agencies.

Martin emphasized the benefit of working together to fight crime.

“We can do so much more as a team than as an individual department,” he said. Residents of Barrow County who would like to report drug activity are asked to contact the Barrow County Crime Task Force at (770) 307-3080 ext. 2996.
