The Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning announced August 5, 2010 that three additional pre-k classes will be funded in Barrow County Schools this school year. As a result, the school system will be able to serve an additional 60 pre-k students this year, or 320 total.
Today, the Barrow County School system said new slots will be filled immediately by a lottery drawing.
The pre-k application must be submitted to Tonya Royal at the Barrow County Schools Professional Development Center by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010.
Completion of the application does not guarantee that a child will be enrolled, but places the child on the list for the lottery. Lottery drawings will be held to determine the students who will fill the new slots.
The lottery will be on Wednesday, August, 11, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. and will be held at the Barrow County Schools Professional Development Center.
Families who are interested in attending the lottery drawing are welcome to attend. Parents of selected students will be notified by phone and the new lists will be posted on the Barrow County Schools’ website www.barrow.k12.ga.us.
If a child is currently on the Barrow County Schools’ pre-k waiting list and is not selected in this lottery he/she will remain in his/her slot on the waiting list as of August 5, 2010. All other children who are not selected in the lottery drawing will be placed at the end of the waiting list in the order the applications are received.
After the lottery drawing, families of children who are placed in a Pre-K class will need to register their child.
The new Barrow County Schools pre-k classes will begin on Monday, August 16, 2010.
