Rowdy bar patron makes rude gesture at cops

Police were called to a West Athens Street business after the manager reported that a male, later identified as Leon Herman Tkalec Jr., 47, of 120 Daley Avenue in Winder, was disturbing the peace.

Before officers arrived, Tkalec left the business. The manager said Tkalec appeared to be intoxicated and had tried to start fights with other patrons of the business.

The manager advised that Taklec was last seen walking towards a nearby bar.

Officers went to the bar and asked the bartender if she had seen a male matching Tkalec’s description. Before the officer could finish describing Tkalec, the bartender said she knew exactly who the officers were looking for and said he was at the pool tables. The bartender said she refused to serve Tkalec because he appeared to be intoxicated.

The officers located Tkalec and instructed him to come with them. Tkalec responded by shooting a bird at one of the officers.

Tkalec was then escorted outside the business and asked if he had anyone who could give him a ride home. When Tkalec replied that he did not, he was arrested for public intoxication.

Tkalec reportedly became very irate after being placed in the back of the patrol car and began to swear at one of the officers. Tkalec was transported to the Barrow County Detention Center and issued a citation which he was unable to sign “due to an altercation he had with the Barrow County Detention officers.”
