Al Mieger, the Barrow County Skywarn coordinator, recently announced a major redesign of the Barrow County weather site, www.barrowcountyweather. com.
The web site, which has been in operation for the past three years, is updated approximately every ten seconds in order to provide real time weather data.
The site also features a storm tracker option which is linked to a lightning detection system. According to Mieger, it is the only one in the county. Mieger said the lightning detection system is a useful tool during stormy weather.
Other features include advisories and weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service and forecast information generated by data collected at Mieger’s weather station. Mieger uses modeling software which is customized for this area to produce an accurate, local forecast.
The site provides information 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is backed up by emergency power.
Mieger also manages two other web sites, www.BarrowCountySkywarn. net and www.TriCountyARC. com.
Station owner...
From the looks of it, the site is just to provide weather information for his radio club.
Also, yes domains and hosting is inexpensive. However, this site pulls very little data from the NWS. The vast majority of the data is generated from the weather station and supporting hardware and software systems.
The site has nothing to do with Amatuer Radio! It is there as a public service just like most any other weather information on the internet except you are not being sold anything :)
