A Winder man was arrested after a late night car accident on Hwy. 81 near Ft. Yargo.
Man downs ten beers, flips vehicle near Ft. Yargo
Police found Florencio Medina–Guillermo, 31, of 124 Second Street in Winder, sitting in the driver’s seat of a Jeep Grand Cherokee which had come to rest approximately 40 yards off the roadway.
Skidmarks on the roadway indicated Medina-Guillermo had been travelling southbound when he swerved into the northbound lane before going off the road and down an embankment.
When approached by the officer, Medina-Guillermo said he was fine. The officer noted that the man appeared to be “slightly shaken up.”
The officer further noted a case of Heineken beer on the ground near the vehicle as well as a broken Heineken bottle next to the driver’s door.
Damage present on the vehicle indicated that the Jeep had flipped before coming to rest in an upright position. Medina-Guillermo said his vehicle did not overturn.
Medina-Guillermo refused medical treatment and was able to walk unassisted from the vehicle. When asked if he had been drinking, Medina-Guillermo said he “probably had ten beers at a friend’s house.”
A portable breathalyzer indicated the presence of alcohol, but Medina-Guillermo did not undergo any field sobriety testing due to the possibility that he may have been injured in the crash.
Medina-Guillermo was placed under arrest for DUI and refused to submit to a breath test. He was also charged with failure to maintain lane and driving while unlicensed.
