A Winder man admitted threatening a teenager after the youth came onto his property to retrieve a basketball.
The man said when he ordered the teen out of his yard, the teen “bowed up” to him. At that point, the man informed the teen he would “kick his ass” if he remained on the property. The teen promptly left.
When interviewed by the deputy, the teen said he and some friends were playing basketball when the ball rolled into the neighbor’s yard.
The teen said when he attempted to retrieve the ball, the neighbor began screaming at him. According to the teen, he tried to explain why he was in the yard, but the neighbor continued to yell and threatened to assault him.
The neighbor requested that the teen be served with a notice of prohibited entry. Afterward, the deputy explained to the man that he could not threaten to assault someone for coming onto his property to retrieve a ball.
The man defended his actions saying he had been having trouble with the teenager in question as well as several other neighborhood teens. The man accused the teenager of making racist comments directed towards a child who resides with him. He also claimed several area teens frequently smoke marijuana and make an excessive amount of noise when playing basketball well into the evening.
No arrests were made.
