Unemployment rate continues to climb

The unemployment rates in Barrow and Jackson counties aren’t getting any better.

The rate climbed in both counties in June, setting the stage for what many believe could be a double-dip recession.

In Barrow County, the rate climbed from a revised 9.9 percent in May to 10.3 percent in June, almost the same rate as June 2009 in the depths of the recession.

In neighboring Jackson County, the rate hit 11 percent in June, up from 10.6 percent in May. That virtually is the same in Jackson as June 2009 when the rate hit 11.1 percent.

The unemployment rate climbed statewide in June to 10.3 percent.

The unemployement rate keeps climbing because no one is willing to hire anyone. They want you to be certified as a mechanic,or whatever.That is really making it hard to get a job. Why not hire them on a probation type deal if they don't work out let them go. The employers are hurt the jobless rate more than helping it.There are companies out there that want just certain people. This is why people are losing everything they have worked years to have. The employers out there don't care.

You blame the employers for not hiring? Lissen, when employers don't have business, they don't hire. When they do have business, they hire. They care, alright. They care about the business that they invested their hard-earned money in, to see it work.

If they want employees with a certification, that's up to them. It's how they see fit to run their business the best.

Don't complain. If they require certification, go to Lanier Tech. Then get that job.

You don't understand. That's what they want. A peice of paper that states you can do the job.

Yes want you have gone to school to do the job you are appling for. If not they want hire you. That's the problem with employers now days. Or if you are mexican you can get a job.

To anonymous check with Clintons Auto Parts they want hire you if you aren't ASE certified to work on cars. I been working on cars since I was 13.And have never had a person bring their car back to me for the same problem as most all shops do. Because the problem it was brought in for wasn't fixed. Thecertification is just books, not actual hands on.

Jimmy, why dont you check around at some of the smaller independent shops.Most of them stay covered up because people are fixing their old cars instead of buying new.Most of the ones that I know of would probably not care if you were certified or not as long as you show them that you can do the job.It may not pay as well as you might think, and they may only need you on a part time basis, but inthese times you can take what you can get or sit down and let the govt. write you a check every month.You dont seem like the type that would go for that very easily though.Good luck

Dear Mr. Jimmy,
It is tough job market out there. You have to have the exact skills the employer is looking for, otherwise you're not getting the job. I feel your pain. I was out of work for several months before obtaining new employment. And I am an engineer with a Master's degree.
