State Senate 47 candidates Shane Coley and Frank Ginn have been invited to participate in two radio broadcast interviews in advance of the August 10 Republican runoff.
The first set of interviews, scheduled to air on WJJC’s (1270 AM)
Straight Talk with Ron Johnson, will be held August 3 at 8 a.m. Coley has confirmed that he will participate. Ginn has not yet committed to appear, Johnson said.
The interview will also be broadcast live online at www.WJJC.net. According to Johnson, listeners may email or call with questions during the show.
The second radio show, scheduled for August 7, will be broadcast on Winder’s WIMO 1300 AM from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ginn and Coley will be the guests on
Views with Gregory Howard. The show will also be broadcast on the station’s web site, www.WIMORadio.com.
Districtwide, Ginn carried 44.5 percent of the vote to Coley’s 26.7 percent in the July 20 Republican primary. In Barrow County, Coley led with 37.5 percent of the vote over Ginn’s 35 percent.
Last week, Coley picked up endorsements from two of his former rivals, Doug Bower and Kelley Gary.
In endorsing Coley, Bower said he and Coley share similar views.
“While our campaign strategies were different, our philosophies are similar: limited government, fiscally responsible government, and free markets,” Bower said. “I therefore have made a commitment to help Mr. Coley in pursuing a run-off victory.”
Gary described Coley as a “solid conservative of real substance that goes far beyond political slogans and rhetoric. “
Gary said he considers Coley a friend and believes he will be a strong taxpayer advocate.
“As a businessman, I trust Shane Coley to fight against government intrusion into our lives,” Gary said. “I know that he will lead the fight against higher taxes and more government regulations that kill small businesses and destroy jobs.”
The winner of the Coley-Ginn runoff will face Democrat Tim Riley in November.
The 47th State Senate District includes all of Barrow, Madison and Oglethorpe counties, most of Jackson County, and half of Clarke and Elbert counties.
This is pure baloney. Don't know why this man wants to spread the stuff on so thick, but Ginn is no "liberal". I have talked to him before. He is a conservative in the Reagan mold, for less intrusion by government, and a good head on his shoulders. At least you can have a conversation with him without leaving shaking your head...
Frank Ginn has never had a $100,000 salary in his life - period. Edwin must know that's a lie. Frank Ginn worked to carry out the goals of his employer. Edwin has apparently confused him with being King, not a County Manager. When he went to Franklin County they couldn't meet their payroll and he turned them around. Besides taking money from investors and then going belly up, what experience does Edwin's guy Shane have?
Edwin's guy Shane runs around saying we can't send home illegal aliens. We have double digit unemployment and Shane is says businesses can't live without this illegal labor. Maybe Edwin thinks that is ok, but I don't think most voters do. Send them home and give those jobs to Americans.
Shane has been open that he feels 'destined to lead' and that our Senate seat is a stepping stone to Congress. Reporters have described him as a 'professor of Austrian economics' and I'm not sure you can get elected to any seat handing our 100 year old French books.
I am happy to respond to these interesting statements about me as a business person and as a leader.
I will answer with indicators that go beyond just words.
I have bought my own insurance and written my own paycheck since the early 90's.
I have been in the same church for 27 years, so I haven't had to change who I associate with in the community for any reason. My pastor, as a personal matter, sent personal letters to pastors across the district on my behalf.
I do business and/or maintain solid relationships to this day with most of the people I have been in business with. These people worked with integrity and with a desire to solve problems. Several of these people, at least seven, have helped me in this senate campaign, primarily by way of volunteer time and sharing their thoughts about my commitment, leadership, knowledge and character.
I invested more, committed more and lost as much or more than any partner I have ever had in any entrepreneurial pursuit that didn't work out as planned. But, for those willing to stand and go again, success is born out of failure and loss. Difficult circumstances make us stronger.
Remember the DotCom bubble and the great stock market losses and fallout? Our business in that area closed down, but we never went bankrupt.
I personally have never been bankrupt.
I have never been the loser in a lawsuit.
Business commitments that I have made, whether written or verbal, I have kept and am keeping.
I have never left a customer hanging, even when it cost me money to fulfill my obligations.
Send me an email and we can discuss further if anyone has other questions.
Regarding national issues, stepping stones and old books...
First of all, a major part of the problem we have today is the misunderstanding of the role of the states in restraining the federal government and defending the Life, Liberty and Property of the people.
The US Constitution is the compact which documents the delegated powers derived from the rights of the people. Governments have powers, people have rights.
What some people call national issues are not national issues in terms of the proper role of government, the power of the states, the rights of the people and the reality that "all politics are local". In other words, when a family loses their job, home, savings, retirement or farm, they don't want to know what category you tell them these issues fall in. They want to know why people in Georgia are losing their property.
Oh, and there is an answer to that for my fellow Georgia citizens. It's in that 150 year old book where the same principles and thinking that founded our nation are recorded. Our founders read and thought in these terms.
And Georgia is one of the original authors and signers of the US Constitution. We created the central government that we are told is our parent and master. Ridiculous thinking.
As for being a stepping stone, I was encouraged by many to run for the 7th congressional seat, but that is not my goal. I want the state to understand its power and responsibility to the people of Georgia. There is work to do in the senate if we plan to preserve our state and nation as the land of the free and home of the brave.
As for being a 'professor of Austrian economics', I appreciate the compliment. For an old cattleman in a young man's body to be considered an expert in yet another complex discipline is an honor indeed. Over the years I have often been told that I am considered proficient as a cattleman, mechanic, equipment operator, mechanical engineer, designer, software engineer, network engineer, team builder, historian, Bible scholar, economist, legal analyst, negotiator, debater, teacher, leader, listener, etc. Whether true or not, I appreciate the confidence exhibited by those who have and share these opinions.
I want to see our state and nation prosper. I will do whatever is rightly in my power and reach to see that happen. Labels are good for propaganda. I am interested in substance and reality. You do the labeling, Georgians who want to live free and prosper will do the work.
