Barrow voters approve ESPLOST

Barrow County residents will not see a drop in their local sales tax, but may avoid a property tax increase with the passage of a new Education Special Purpose Location Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST).

Voters approved the ESPLOST by a wide margin with over 59 percent of voters in favor of the tax.

The E-SPLOST will extend the current one percent E-SPLOST for an additional five years or until $54 million has been collected, whichever comes first.

The new E-SPLOST will go into effect upon the expiration of the current E-SPLOST in September of 2011.

I hope to goodness that this money isn't going for our wonderful supers new ideas. First of all she hires a consultant from Gwinnett County to tell her how to run transportation dept.Well, what are we giving her more money for than our last superintendent? She has hired two bus drivers to oversee the WBHS side of the county and the Appalachee side. They will be paid for 8 hour days so guess what we are paying bus drivers $15-19 per hour but it will be no less than $15 per the superintendent. Not only that they have two others working at the office where the new unnecessary new transportation building is. Now I'm just trying to figure out why you need a transportation director? She is letting people go that have worked in the county for years and they are loosing their homes. But she wants to pay 2 bus drivers $600-$900 per week to take positions that the director should be handling. I think the board members need to take a minute and get some explanations because we deserve to know what her thinking is. This is just only the beginning. I just hope this is not what we are paying for.

Passage of this measure is wonderful news. They were going to take the from somewhere, and it's better in a sales tax, that way the illegals, non-property owners and other non-tax paying citizens can pitch in and help with expenses. Vote FairTax!

Why don't we make the ones that were over paying themselves pay it back ? Why do they even still have a job? Oh yea one of them has brother in law on the BOE. Last I checked if you stole from an employer you pay it back or do jail time. Taxpayers wake up there is a whole lot of corruption going on in this department. Kept the crooks and let special needs monitors go,This didn't work years ago. Special needs parents time to call the BOE and voice your concerns. To Concerned we are in this mess because of the last Superintendent that they praise so high,He let all of this go on!He ignored it as did Human Resources they both left with huge pensions.Has anyone at the PDC took a cut in pay yet? Drivers and Monitors make peanuts and never will be appreciated for what they do.The Monitors will not be attending the state meeting,so the ones we have left will get their info second hand as if they don't matter, getting info second hand is what got us in this mess! We always have a meeting with the Director after State meeting, don't the Monitors need to hear what Dr. Creel has to say? What if they have questions? WE ALL DESERVE ANSWERS AND NOT SECOND HAND! If we are starting out with a fresh start then do it right! Have respect for all employers or does this mean things are not going to change for the better?Just a reminder; We are not just Bus Drivers and Monitors we are Parents and TAXPAYERS of Barrow County! Our opinion should matter. I would like to have the money the BOE owes us for not paying us till we picked up our first child,( even if it takes us 20 minutes to get there)Hello illegal and the guy from Gwinnett confirmed it, well thank heaven for small favors,so pay up! You don't mind furloughing us and taking our Money away. For years we have been told we get paid an extra 31 hours for pre-trip and safety meeting not, so we have been lied to for years. So will we be lied to this year or will they be honest and upfront with us? Maybe we will get the answers next week.

I love the fact that people are blogging about discontent with the BOE and yet the county voted to keep the incumbents.

CONCERNED TAXPAYER.... Answers you shall have when you are called to court to testified for slander/libel.......” The term defamation of character is often used to describe accusations of slander, libel or both. Slander involves verbal derogatory statements, while libel involves written ones. In a court of law, the plaintiff pursuing the lawsuit would charge defamation of character to cover any form of false or damaging allegations.” In case you don’t understand the above definition: it means YOU should know the facts before you write things that are not true!!!!!!!! IP Address are forever and anyone who tells you otherwise needs to research computers. Read the fine print about blogging on here. If you slander someone and an attorney can and will subpoena the newspapers records.

Actually that's not true. Computers get their IP address from the router. If the person is blogging from a "hotspot" the computer would pick up an IP address that's within that routers range.

For example if I'm sitting at a cafe with WIFI and their router has an IP address of 168.175.1.1 with IP addresses starting at 168.175.1.101 and going through 255 then the person would have an IP address within that range.

But if they change WIFI locations and the new one has 154.156.1.1 as the router IP address and a range of 154.156.101 through 255 their IP address would change.

It would be possible to narrow the location but not the laptop. Check with your techie on this

Folks just go to work, do your job, make sure you are being paid for the job that you do and forget the rest.What does it really matter anyway? Do you really think any of this will ever be fixed? One day you have a job and the next you are being kicked to the curb without any notice what so ever! Talk about second hand news, now that you are in debt for transportation for work that you couldn't afford before and you really cant afford now and still no one has the professionalism for a call or email you are just evicted and sitting all summer wondering how you will pay your bills now.It isn't affordable to pay 1 person to do the job of 3 people but it is affordable to pay 3 people twice as much money per person to do the job that one person was doing for half the money and still not have the bases covered with all those people.I guess I should have been in our new supers office crying the blues because I was really being ripped off. In my opinion it would have been more professional to have at least had the common courtesy to have interviewed a person to find out what responsibilities they processed to evaluate whether or not the position and pay was feasible. maybe I will be paid better for driving this year. I understand we will be keeping time sheets this year.

You all are acting like high school kids. You all need to leave Meg, Phyllis, Charlyn, Mark and Dr. Creel alone and stop badgering them. They are doing their job and I think they have done it well. So what if they have made more money than we do that was their buisness not OURS. We are Barrow County School Bus Drivers and we are suppose to set a good example for our children and their parents. I am sure parents are reading this and wondering what kind of people are driving their children to and from school. You all got what you want and Meg and Phyllis are out of the office and back on the bus. They deserve a job just like we do so let it go stop all this childish crap. I am glad they are still with us and they are going to drive a bus just like we do. JUST BE GLAD YOU STILL HAVE A JOB.....
