Barrow County School System officials are hoping voters will continue their support for the Educational Special Local Option Sales Tax during the July 20 voting.
The Barrow County Board of Education has formulated a list of priorities for the new ESPLOST, should it meet voter approval Tuesday, according to Jake Grant, assistant superintendent for facilities.
In addition to refinancing current bond debt, the school system plans to build several new schools. Grant said, however, that the list could change by BOE vote.
•new Russell Middle School facility. A
new facility would be constructed with the renovation of the current facility to be used for elementary classrooms.
Grant said currently there are no elementary classrooms within the City of Winder.
•a career technical facility.
•two additional elementary schools.
•an additional middle school.
Grant said the Barrow County School System has grown approximately 530 students per year for the last five years.
Projects also hinge on funding from the state, Grant said.
The current EPLOST expires Sept. 30, 2011.
The yes/no referendum will appear on both Republican and Democratic ballots.
