Underage drinking leads to four arrests
Three people were charged with underage consumption of alcohol and a fourth was charged with obstruction after police were called to a Shenandoah Drive address in response to a report of underage drinking.
The first officer to arrive on scene found two males and one female standing in the driveway of the residence.
The female, Jordan Shae Martin, 21, of 539 Lillian Way in Statham, approached the officer and asked him why he was there.
The officer explained the reason for his presence and asked if anyone had been drinking.
“Ms. Martin stated she had, which was apparent to me based on the slurring of her words,” the officer wrote.
When asked if any of the people present were under 21 and if they had been drinking, Martin claimed she was the only one who had consumed any alcohol.
The two males, Christopher Logan Barnette, 20, of 1442 Bird Hammond Road in Winder, and Dylan Owen Tierney, 19, of 781 Coleen Drive in Winder, denied having anything to drink.
At the request of the officer, Barnette and Tierney submitted to a portable breathalyzer test. Both tested positive for alcohol with Barnette registering a .14 and Tierney a .13.
When the officer asked where they had obtained the alcohol, Tierney said he had purchased it, but refused to say where. Barnette and Tierney were placed under arrest for underage consumption of alcohol.
After being placed in the patrol car, Barnette became agitated saying he could not understand why he was being taken to jail when he had been released on citations the four other times he had been charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Barnette added that two other underage subjects were inside the home and that both had been drinking as well.
The officer walked back to the house and spoke with Martin. The officer asked if anyone was in the home besides Martin and the homeowner. Martin said no one else was present.
The officer explained to the homeowner and to Martin that he needed to look for other juveniles who may have been drinking. When the homeowner refused to allow the officer inside, the officer explained that she was obstructing his investigation.
At that point, Martin became belligerent and began yelling and cursing. She accused Barnette and Tierney of lying and, according to the report, “wanted to go yell at the boys.”
When additional officers arrived, Martin finally admitted two other females were inside the home. One, a 16-year-old female, was taken to the police department where she was released to a parent. The other female, Sarah Corrine Patterson, 19, of 1162 Hwy. 211 in Winder, was arrested for underage consumption after blowing a .09 during the portable breathalyzer test.
Martin was also arrested and charged with obstruction for trying to hide the two females knowing that both were underage and had been drinking.
In addition to charges of underage consumption, Barnette and Tierney were also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after the officer discovered Tierney had purchased the alcohol from the EZ Buy located at 879 Jefferson Highway in Winder. Tierney said he “never gets carded” at that store. Barnette was also charged since his credit card was used to make the purchase
