More summer police patrols requested

“Then on the pavement, they drew the outline of a man’s private area,” the woman said. “One of the officers thought it was SpongeBob.”

She said she feels intimidated by the youths, who have thrown items at her house and sometimes walk past her in her own yard. In the most troubling incident to date, the youths reportedly targeted a Hispanic neighbor, dumping human waste at the resident’s front door and setting it on fire.

The woman said she and other neighbors have been hesitant to call city police because of the fear of retribution. Sewell said he has asked for additional police patrols but that the only time he typically sees a patrol car there is when a report of a domestic disturbance or a “bear” in a back yard is called in.
