Police were called to an Austin Way address in response to a physical altercation between a man and his partner.
The victim said he and his partner, Anthony Robert Hobday, 39, of 320 Austin Way in Auburn, had been arguing because Hobday was hanging out at bars in Buckhead.
During the argument, Hobday became angry and began hitting and scratching the victim. Hobday then allegedly grabbed a glass and hit the victim on the back of his head leaving a gash.
The victim then walked into the couple’s bedroom and called a suicide hot line. The victim later told police he was afraid of what he might do and needed help.
The victim’s injuries were photographed and he was transported to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Hobday confirmed that he and the victim had been arguing over his social habits, but said he only struck the victim after the victim grabbed him.
Based on their assessment of both the victim’s and Hobday’s injuries, police determined Hobday’s wounds were “offensive wounds, not defensive wounds.”
Hobday was charged with family violence battery and transported to the Barrow County Detention Center.
