One dead, two hurt after Auburn shooting

One man is dead and two other victims remain hospitalized after a Tuesday evening shooting in Auburn.

The suspect in the shootings, 42-year-old James Bush, is hospitalized under 24-hour surveillance by deputies from the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.

Bush is charged with murder and felony murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Antonio Zavala, age 30. Bush is also facing numerous other criminal charges including possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed robbery, carjacking, cruelty to children in the third degree and numerous counts of aggravated assault

The charges stem from a June 29 incident at 311 Woodview Drive in Auburn. Investigators believe the incident may have been domestic in nature.

Barrow County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Woodview Drive address just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered Zavala dead in a vehicle at the scene. The two injured males, Lopez Narvaez, 31, and Alvaro Zavala Echevarria, 35, were found in the front yard of the residence. Both males were transported to area hospitals and are listed in stable condition.

By the time authorities arrived, Bush had fled the scene in a black Ford F-150 and crashed his vehicle on Carl-Cedar Hill Road near Woodview Drive.

Bush carjacked a passerby who stopped to render assistance, taking the victim’s silver 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.

After a lookout was issued for Bush, Gwinnett Police spotted the stolen Silverado in Buford. Bush pulled behind a building on S. Church Street where he was surrounded by officers. Bush was taken into custody without incident, but then became unresponsive. Bush was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of a possible overdose.

Barrow County Sheriff's deputies took custody of Bush after he was assessed by medical personnel.

In addition to charges brought by Barrow County authorities, Gwinnett Police have charged Bush with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Maj. Todd Druse of the Barrow County Sheriff’s Department said the motive for the shooting has not yet been firmly established and the investigation is ongoing.

This happened just down the road from where we live off Chicken Lyle.
I heard all the police sirens, but at the time didn't have a clue
that was going on. Kinda scary that it happened so close to where we live.

We all need a lot more guns in our lives...let's be sure every one has access to a gun or two so that when tempers flare or meds wear off some real damage gets done! My prayers go out to the victims of this man's anger and his gun!

Yep lets blame the gun. There are no other weapons out there so dont blame the person who did this, blame the metal he had in his hand. I think we should get rid of car keys so drunks cant drive. Yep you have a great idea!

Yep is clearly uneducated on the facts. If one of the victims would have had a firearm, the situation might have ended very differently. The person that allegedly did this terrible act wasn't allowed to own or posses a firearm according to reports that he was a convicted felon. It is not the firearms fault and no gun law would have made a difference. The guy already made the choice to break the law, what tool he used is of no consequence. It could have been a bat, a vehicle, a hammer, etc.. Use a little common sense Yep.
