Patriots of all ages are invited to come to the football stadium at Winder-Barrow High School on Saturday to recognize the service of the two Winder-based Georgia Army National Guard units that recently returned from Afghanistan.
The event, hosted by Operation Patriot’s Call, will feature marching soldiers, music from the only Army National Guard Army band in Georgia, a short program featuring the units’ commanders and a big community cookout.
“I’m hoping we run out of hot dogs and don’t have enough room for everybody in the stands,” said Michelle Walker, spokesperson for Operation Patriot’s Call.
“We want everyone to come and show these people how much we appreciate them giving up a year of their lives to serve their country. This is our opportunity to say thank-you as a community.”
