A Statham woman was uninjured during a harrowing ordeal in which she was bound after two men forced their way into her Diamond Ridge Drive home in the early morning hours of June 7.
The victim said she was sleeping when she was awakened by a loud noise. When she walked out of her bedroom to investigate, she was confronted by two masked men.
According to the victim, one of the men grabbed her arms and held her while the other man went through her belongings. One of the men then reportedly bound the victim’s wrists and ankles with a telephone cord and electronic cable.
The victim was made to lie face down on her bed and was told that if she stayed quiet, she would not be harmed.
After the suspects left the home, the victim hopped across the street to a neighbor’s house. The neighbor cut the cords binding the victim and called 911.
The reporting deputy noted that the back door had been kicked open resulting in damage to the door frame. Several bedrooms in the home had also been ransacked.
While the deputy was interviewing the victim, the victim’s husband called. The deputy overheard the victim ask her husband to come home, but then heard the woman say “You’re not coming home?”
The husband asked to speak with the deputy. During the brief conversation, the husband asked the deputy if someone broke into the home and if the suspects entered through the back door. The deputy noted that the husband “did not sound concerned about the incident or his wife.”
Several items including a computer and the victim’s purse were stolen during the incident. The suspects also stole the victim’s 1999 Ford Expedition.
A short time later, the Expedition was found on fire near the intersection of Hwy. 211 and Wilbanks Road.
A gas can was located approximately 50 yards away from the vehicle. No other evidence was located.
The incident remains under investigation.
Hope that helps.
