Though no formal announcement has yet been made, Schutz Container Systems, a German owned plastics manufacturer, is expected to move its Georgia plant from Doraville to Carl sometime in late fall 2011 or early 2012.
The relocation is expected to bring up to several hundred jobs to Barrow County within the next five years, said Linda Moore, vice president of Barrow County's Economic Development Council.
Moore said the company has not officially released plans for the move, but has been working with several firms, including CSX, to make plans for the new facility on Bankhead Highway.
While it is too early to determine the total economic benefit to Barrow County, Moore said the move is projected to bring $50 million in capital investment along with 300 new jobs.
Moore said Schutz’s relocation will have a far reaching impact and will strengthen the industrial corridor between Auburn and Winder.
“We’re certainly very pleased the company has chosen Barrow as its new home,” Moore said. “We welcome them to the community and look forward to working with them.”
