Unlicensed cyclist exceeds 100 mph on 316

A Barrow County Sheriff’s deputy was traveling westbound on Hwy. 316 when he witnessed a black motorcycle approaching at a high rate of speed. According to the deputy’s radar, the motorcycle was speeding towards him at 95 mph. After the motorcycle passed his patrol car, the deputy obtained a second radar reading of 106 mph.

After turning around, the deputy attempted to overtake the speeding cyclist.

As the deputy approached the intersection of State Route 11 and Hwy. 316, he spotted the motorcycle in the left lane of travel. When the deputy pulled into the lane behind the motorcycle, the operator, Joseph Dustin Lauder, 29, of 1170 Atlanta Highway in Auburn, began weaving back and forth within his lane and continued to do so until finally pulling over near Harrison Mill Road.

The deputy instructed Lauder to turn the motorcycle off and put his hands behind his back. The deputy informed Lauder he was being arrested for traveling 106 mph in a 65 mph zone. After checking his license, the deputy also charged Lauder with driving without a valid license.

The motorcycle was impounded and Lauder was transported to the detention center.
