Winder’s Granite Hotel needs another savior.
The North Carolina company that had hoped to quickly pull together a complex deal involving funding through three levels of government found the deal too complicated to work out in time to meet looming application deadlines.
Rex Todd, who presented the proposal by The Landmark Group of Winston-Salem at a May 17 meeting of the Winder Downtown Development Authority, notified the mayor and planning staff of the company’s decision last Friday.
In response to an inquiry, Todd told the Barrow Journal in an e-mail Tuesday morning that issues arose with the number of affordable housing units that would be available at a combination of the hotel site and a second site near the Barrow County Senior Center off Maynard Street.

for goodness sake.... bulldoze the thing already and build a parking deck.... eliminate the parking streetside,,,, and add additional lanes through Winder.....if you want Winder businesses to survive, the patrons need somewhere to park, and as residents we need that eyesore gone for good.
