Man stabbed while attempting to stop argument

According to a witness, the victim attempted to break up a fight between David James Griffin, 21, of 189 Wood Avenue in Winder, and another man. Griffin became upset at the victim’s interference and reportedly grabbed a steak knife from a kitchen drawer and plunged it into the victim’s chest.

Griffin fled the residence with the knife and was later apprehended by Winder Police.

Griffin denied attacking the victim and said the victim had stabbed himself in the chest. When asked why the victim would have done that, Griffin said he did not know.

Once informed that he was facing charges of aggravated assault, Griffin “broke down and started crying and did so all the way to the jail,” the officer wrote.

Attempts to locate the weapon used in the attack were unsuccessful.
