LETTER: Puzzled by school system writing results

Dear Editor:
While the article “Writing tests results mixed” (May 12 edition) indicated the test results were up and down, overall the scores were worse by an average of 2.4%.

To me, it is inconceivable and verboten that these numbers could be used in any positive manner to illustrate improvements in the Barrow County School System.

We are talking about almost one in four fifth grade students failing written tests! It is imperative that Barrow County residents acknowledge and comprehend the ramifications of these figures. This is the future of our county, state and nation at stake! I wish someone on the School Board or in the Superintendent's Office could explain to me how this type of poor performance continues unabated and uncorrected?!
