Barrow lags in GHSGT

Juniors in the Barrow County School System lagged both last year’s test results and the overall state results on this year’s Georgia High School Graduation Test.

Students take the GHSGT for the first time in the spring of their junior year and must pass all four sections before they graduate.

This year, some 600 Barrow County juniors took the test with only 69 percent passing all four sections compared to 74 percent passing statewide.

Barrow’s best result was in Science where students improved from a 12 percent failure rate last year to a 10 percent rate this year, the same as the overall state results.

But in Language Arts and Math, this year’s class did worse than last year’s results. Some 14 percent of Barrow students failed this year compared to 10 percent last year in ELA while 10 percent failed in Math compared to just seven percent last year.
